Re-registration of vehicle is required because motor vehicle tax is managed separately by each state in India. If you relocate permanently or keep vehicle in another state for more than 12 months, local RTO will ask you to pay road tax again and updates vehicle registration records. When vehicle stays in another state for long time, details recorded in original state no longer reflect actual location of vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If individual is moving to different state for more than 12 months, then they need to re register vehicle&nbsp; with present state RTO.  If you move for less than 12 months, no re registration is required. As per 2026 rules, unpaid FASTag toll amount also blocks NOC request.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Get Motor Vehicle Non-Involvement Certificate to confirm vehicle is not stolen.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If vehicle is under loan, bank NOC in physical form is mandatory.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apply for NOC online via Parivahan. Amount depends on vehicle age and depreciated value.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submit forms:\n<ul>\n<li>Form 20 (new registration)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Form 27 (new registration mark)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Form 33 (address change)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vehicle inspection at new RTO is mandatory. Motor Vehicle Inspector checks chassis number and engine number.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After approval, new state registration number is assigned. Smart card RC is sent to new address.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Refund_of_road_tax\"><\/span>Refund of road tax<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Since road tax is paid twice, refund from original state is allowed. Submit refund request to old RTO. Attach copy of new RC, new road tax receipt, and original NOC.
