You will need a valid passport and a visa to enter Belgium. If you are planning a short visit to Belgium for up to 90 days or less, you may need to apply for a Schengen visa. Applications can be lodged 6 months in advance of travel date.Belgium is one of the 26 European countries forming the Schengen Area which have no border controls between them. In case you have already submitted your fingerprints for a previous Schengen visa application in the last 59 months, you are not required to submit them again.

However, If you are uncertain whether your fingerprints have been captured for a Schengen visa within the last 59 months, you are advised to appear in person.

Kindly note that, if it would appear that the fingerprints prove not to be present in the VIS system, you will be asked to reappear in person for new biometric data collection. To avoid this possible complication, you have the right to ask for your fingerprints to be taken again.

Types of Belgium Visa

Schengen Visa C: This visa is required if you plan to travel outside of the Schengen Area and must pass through one of Belgium's airports.
Tourist Visa :You will need to apply for a tourist visa if you want to spend your short vacation in Belgium sightseeing and exploring the country.
Visitor's visa: This Belgian visa is for foreigners who have family or friends in Belgium and wish to visit them for a short period of time.
Business Visa: If you want to visit Belgium for business or related activities, you'll need to get a business visa.
Official visit visa: This type of visa is for members of delegations who are visiting Belgium for official reasons.
Medical visa: People who want to visit Belgium for medical treatment will need this medical visa.
Study visa: This visa is for students who want to study in Belgium for up to three months on a short-term basis.

According to the purpose of traveling the Uniform Schengen Visa applies to all of the two categories, “A” and “C”.

“A” category stands for the Airport Transit Visa which allows its holder to travel through the international zone of the Schengen country Airport without entering the Schengen Area. Airport transit visa is mandatory for the citizens travelling from one non-Schengen state to another non-Schengen state through a change of flights in a Schengen country airport.

“C” category stands for a Short-term visa which allows its holder to reside in a Schengen Area for a certain period of time depending on the visa validity. This particular category, according to the holder’s purpose of the travel can be obtained in a form of:

Single-entry visa,

Double-entry visa and

Multiple-entry visa.

Single-entry visa - A single-entry visa- allows its holder to enter the Schengen Area only once, within the given period of time, as mentioned in the visa sticker affixed to their passport. Once the visa holder exits the Schengen territory, he or she can no longer go back, even if they have not spend there the number of days as permitted by the embassy that issued them the visa. Some people confuse the single-entry visa, thinking that it is about the number of countries the visa holder is permitted to visit, and that it allows them to enter one single country. In fact, the territory you are permitted to visit is given close to the “Valid for” tag in your visa sticker, whereas the time you are permitted to stay is given close to the “Number of entries” tag.
Double-entry visa -In general, a double-entry visa applies the same way as the single-entry visa explained above. The sole difference between a single-entry and a double-entry visa is that the second gives you the chance to go once more back to the Schengen territory once you have left it.You should be very careful not to exceed the number of days you are permitted to stay in the Schengen Zone, as well as the period within which you can spend these days in the EU. Once again, do not mix the “double-entry” tag with the number of countries you are permitted to enter and remain within the given time.With this visa, when you leave the Schengen Area for the second time, you no longer have the right to go back, even if you have not spend all of the days you were permitted to remain there. However, if you have obtained a double-entry visa more than once, and you are a frequent traveler to the Schengen zone, you are more likely to be granted with a multiple-entry visa, as explained below.
Multiple-entry visa- A multiple-entry visa allows its holder to go in and out of the Schengen Area as many times as he or she wants, as soon as they do not violate the 90/180 rule.

In order to get an airport transit visa for Belgium, you will need to submit a copy of your valid visa for your final destination. For all other countries not mentioned on this list, a transit visa is not required if you plan to stay within the international transit area in the airport.

If you reach Belgium through air, upon arrival at the Belgian airport you will have to present some travel and identification documents to the Belgian border officer. These documents are as follows:

A valid passport or travel document.

Valid for at least three more months beyond the date you plan to leave Belgium (and the Schengen Zone), issued within the last 10 years.*

A visa

if you are subject to Belgian visa regime.You may also be asked for other supporting documents such as an invitation letter by a Belgian host, proof of lodging or a round-trip ticket. For more information in this regard, contact the local consular services of Belgium in your home country.

These documents will be checked by the Belgian border official, who may ask you a few questions about your trip to Belgium like:

What is your purpose of visiting Belgium?
How long do you intend to stay in Belgium?
Where are you going to stay in Belgium? Etc.

Upon checking your documents, the Belgian border officer will give the final decision whether you should be permitted to enter Belgium or not. If everything looks okay, you will be allowed to enter Belgium, and thus the Schengen Area. Please, make sure that the Belgian border officer gives you an entry stamp in your passport when you enter the Schengen area. Without a stamp, you could be fined or detained from Belgium

C.What Documents are Required when Applying for a Belgium Schengen Visa? According to Belgium visa requirements, the following documents must be submitted to the Belgium embassy/consulate when applying for any short-term Belgium visa:

Belgium visa application form Fully completed, printed and signed at the end.
Two identical photos. The photographs should be no older than three months.
Your passport. It should contain at least to blank pages in order to be able to affix the Belgium visa sticker. Check the validity of your passport before you apply, since it must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the date you exit Belgium (Schengen territory). It must be no older than 10 years, as well.
Copies of your previous visas (if applicable).
Language Preference Form. Belgian authorities offer to you the opportunity to choose in which of the three national languages of Belgium you wish your application to be treated (French, German or Dutch). On the other hand, if you choose to complete the application in English, please choose “no preference”.
Schengen Travel Insurance. You are required to submit a document, which confirms that you have purchased travel insurance for Belgium and the whole territory of Schengen.
A cover letter. In which you explain why you wish to visit Belgium and you give further details on your trip.
Round trip flight itinerary Containing the dates and flight numbers specifying entry and exit from Belgium (Schengen area).

i.Belgium Visa Requirements for Minors Additional Belgium visa requirements for minors wishing to visit Belgium for short-stays are as following:

Birth certificate of the minor traveling to Belgium
Belgium application form signed by both parents.
Family court order – in cases where only one parent has full custody over the child.
Certified copies of ID / passport of both parents.
A notarized parental authorization to travel to Belgium, signed by both parents / guardians if the minor will be travelling alone.

Official Visit Visa

If your travel is related to attending intergovernmental meetings, consultations, negotiations or events, you will need to apply for a special official visit visa. The following documents will have to be shown to the embassy in order to be eligible for this visa:
