Denmark Visa for Indians


Application is applicable in case you are travelling for tourism. A visa normally grants you the right to stay in the entire Schengen region. Decisions about visa applications must normally be made within 15 working days from the day Embassy receives it, excluding submission time at VFS). In some cases applications will require further enquiry or documentation. So processing time in these cases might prolong. Applicants might also be asked to appear for an Interview at the Embassy. A Denmark tourist visa from India can be obtained if you are planning to stay for a maximum duration and are also willing to spend an equal number of days in Denmark with other Schengen countries, but Denmark should be your first point of entry. Denmark Visa Types

  • Airport Transit visa - Airport Transit Visa application is applicable in case you have to change flights without leaving the airport. An airport transit visa entitles the holder to enter the international transit area of the airport, but not the territory of the Denmark.
  • Short term visa - Short Stay visa entitles an applicant, who does not hold a residence permit, to stay in Denmark for an uninterrupted period or a total of successive periods of stays that does not exceed 90 days in every 180 days period.You may be entitled to an accelerated visa procedure free of charge if as you meet the following criteria:

1.you are a family member of an European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) citizen; and

2.that EU/EEA citizen  is travelling to or is residing in a member state other than that of which he/she is a citizen; and

3.you are accompanying the EU/EEA citizen or planning to join him/her in the Schengen State of destination.

If you think you are entitled to an accelerated visa procedure you will need to show proof that you meet these criteria when you submit your visa application. When you come to the VFS Global Denmark visa application centre to deliver short term visa application, you will need to have your biometric data recorded. You should remove any henna on your fingertips, or allow it to fade, as this may prevent us from getting a clear scan. Every applicant who is applying for the Schengen visa for the first time must visit the visa application centre in person. Children of less than 12 years need to visit but are not require to have fingerprints, only a photograph. Storing of biometric features


Biometric features (fingerprints and facial images) are stored by the Immigration authorities. If you are granted a residence permit, your fingerprints and facial image will be stored for 10 years. If you are not granted a residence permit, your fingerprints and facial image will be stored for 20 years. If you become a Danish citizen, your fingerprints and facial image will be deleted.


Applicants must provide proof of travel medical insurance covering the full time of their intended visit. The insurance must be valid throughout the territory of the Member States. The minimum cover shall be EUR 30,000. For the list of travel insurance companies.


You are responsible for ensuring that the information in the issued sticker is correct. When you receive your sticker, please verify it immediately.


If the sticker contains inaccurate details, inform the Danish Mission or the ESP immediately in order to have it corrected. The Danish Mission will correct the mistake and issue a new sticker without demanding an extra fee.


Applicants should check that all details on the sticker are correct (e.g. name, validity dates, passport number etc.).


In general, you are responsible for ensuring that you meet foreign entry requirements and that your travel documents, such as passports and visas (transit, business, tourist, and otherwise), are in order and any other foreign entry requirements are met.


The Danish Mission is not liable for expenses related to e.g. change of flight ticket, new flight ticket, hotel etc. due to inaccurate details in the issued sticker.


  • Business visa -Business visa application is applicable in case you are travelling for business purposes.

Depending on the purpose of your travel to Denmark, there are different types of visas that will apply to the occasion.Whether you are planning to go on a visit, study or work and reside in Denmark permanently, you will have to apply for a different Schengen Visa, accordingly.

You can apply for the Danish Schengen Visa since 2001 when Denmark as an European Union Member State also became a member state of the Schengen Area.

Stat: As per 2017, Denmark has issued a total of 141,353 uniform Schengen visas from 152,467 applications received at Belgian consulates and embassies around the world.

Nationals Who Require a Visa for Denmark

You need a visa for Denmark for business, personal visits or tourism if you are:

Not a citizen of a Nordic country

Not a citizen of an EU/EAA country

Required documents for a Denmark Visa Application:


The following list of documents are required in order to obtain a Denmark visa:

  • Download the application form, fill it completely and with sincerity. You can also fill the Denmark Schengen Visa application form electronically and then print a hard-copy.
  • 2 photos must be attached; the photo should be of passport format – a recent whole-face capture with a light background. Learn more about photo requirements and specifications for a Danish Visa.
  • Your passport and copies of your previous visas – valid for at least 3 months beyond return date – are required. Your passport must have at least two blank pages.
  • Travel health insurance confirmation of minimum 30,000 € coverage within Denmark and the entire Schengen area
  • A cover letter stating the purpose of visit to Denmark and itinerary (Click to find cover letter samples!)
  • Flight Itinerary with dates and flight numbers specifying entry and exit from Denmark
  • Proof of civil status (marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, death certificate of spouse, ration card if applicable)
  • Means of subsistence – Proof of sufficient financial means for the period of stay in Denmark

If employed:

  • Employment contract
  • Current bank statement of the latest 6 months
  • Leave permission from employer
  • Income Tax Return (ITR) form or Certificate of Income Tax deducted at the source of salary

If self-employed:

  • A copy of your business license
  • Company bank statement of the latest 6 months
  • Income Tax Return (ITR)

If a student:

  • Proof of enrollment
  • No-objection certificate from school or university

If retired:

  • Pension statement of the latest 6 months

If applicable:

  • Regular income generated by property proof of the latest 6 months

*Note: The signed application form must be accompanied the rest of the above-mentioned mandatory documents and handed personally at the appropriate embassy/consulate or its representative in your home country.Apart from the general documentation required, accompanying should be other additional documents depending on the purpose of your Danish Visa application.

List of additional documents required for the most frequent purposes of Denmark Visa Application:

  • Danish Tourist/Visitor Visa:
  • Invitation letter from your family or friends in Denmark with the address and phone number – if applicable
  • Bank statement of the last 6 months
  • Passport copies

Denmark Visa for Business Purposes:

  • Invitation letter from the Danish company you will be visiting and their detailed address accompanied with the dates of your visit
  • A certificate from your employer stating/allowing your business travel
  • If there were previous trade relations between the two companies, proof of such events must be provided
  • Business bank statement of the latest 6 months
  • Memorandum and Article of Association in original certified copy (registered with joint stock companies) Trade License (first issued and present renewal), Proprietorship/Partnership documents
  • Regarding the applicant’s expenses during stay in the Schengen zone, either the employer or the partner company must state coverage of expenses on the letter or invitation.

  • A local medical report
  • A medical attestation from the hospital or doctor in Denmark, confirming the date of your appointment as well as your medical situation

VFS Global will submit all such applications to The Denmark Embassy in New Delhi.

Long Term applications accepted at the Denmark Visa Application Centre in New Delhi will be submitted on the next working day to the Embassy. Applications accepted at other locations will be submitted after two working days to The Denmark Embassy in New Delhi.

Fees Requirement

Visa fee for Denmark starts from INR 4300 (Tourist Visa) and can be INR 15,100 (Work Visa, Green Card Scheme, Research, Corporate, Study etc). For a child between 6 to 12 years of age, visa fee is INR 2600 (for a short stay visa).

  • Mode of Payment

Fee for applicants applying at The Denmark Visa Application Centres in India & Bhutan is payable in Cash.

Fee for applicants applying at The Denmark Visa Application Centres in Nepal is payable in demand draft. Demand draft should be in favour of ‘Royal Danish Embassy’ payable at New Delhi.

The visa fee shall be waived for applicants belonging to one of the following categories:

Children under six years;

School pupils, students, postgraduate students and accompanying teachers who undertake stays for the purpose of study or educational training;

Researchers from third countries travelling for the purpose of carrying out scientific research as defined in Recommendation No 2005/761/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 28 September 2005 to facilitate the issue by the Member States of uniform short-stay visas for researchers from third countries travelling within the Community for the purpose of carrying out scientific research ( 1 );

Representatives of non-profit organisations aged 25 years or less participating in seminars, conferences, sports, cultural or educational events organised by non-profit organisations.

Children from the age of six years and below the age of 12 years;

Holders of diplomatic and service passports;

Participants aged 25 years or less in seminars, conferences, sports, cultural or educational events, organised by non-profit organisations

VFS also provides a SMS service which notifies the applicant automatically about the visa application status and any change in the status during the visa application process.

Once visa application status shows that the passport is ready for collection, then applicants can come and collect their passport during passport collection time.

Alternatively VFS offers a Courier Service for applicants unable to collect their passport in person during the Passport Collection time.
