Tajikistan Visa for Indian

As of June 1st, 2016 the government of Tajikistan has launched the new ‘E- Visa portal’ for issuance of electronic visas (e- Visa), which enables the citizens of India and other countries in order to enter the country. The website is accessible by clicking on the URL https://www.evisa.tj . This visa is valid for those visitors who are willing to enter the country with tourist or business visas. They will have to complete the electronic application and they will receive the electronic visa without visiting consulate representatives of Tajikistan abroad in order to enter the country.

The electronic visa system (e- Visa) is useful as it allows Indian citizens to receive Tajikistan visa online, and also relieving them from necessity to stand in queues in Tajikistan consulates or at the immigration counters. The government of Tajikistan has developed this new system in order to increase the number of tourists visiting Tajikistan, facilitate the process of obtaining a visa to Tajikistan, as well as to simplify visa procedures for businessmen.

After filling the application form with the necessary information and once the online payment by means of a credit card is completed, applicants will receive their visas via email. The application fee is 50 USD which must be paid by means of the internationally recognized electronic networks for the electronic processing. In the event that the application is denied, the above mentioned amount for the E- Visa will not be refunded to the applicant. Once the application has been successfully approved, the applicant will receive their electronic visa via email at the registered email address. This document is to be presented upon crossing the state border of Tajikistan, along with a valid travel document, to the immigration authorities at the ports of entry.

The E- Visa (Electronic visa) of the Republic of Tajikistan is valid for 90 days, and the visa holder is not permitted to stay in the territory of the country for more than 45 consecutive calendar days. The issued Electronic visa is not extendable and the visa holder will have to leave the country by the specified date shown on their E- visa. This system is convenient and the application is rather simple, payment is processed via credit card (American Express, MasterCard, or Visa card), and the decision is instant. Once the payment is processed, a PDF file will be generated which you must download, print and present to border officials upon landing in Tajikistan.

Fees and Validity

Tajikistan e visa

The fee for the visa (both tourist visa and business visa) is USD 50, and in the event that you require a GBAO (Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region) permit, it costs an additional USD 20.

The visa is valid for a trip of 45 days within a 90 day period from the entry date you fill in the application form. This visa is single entry, and you can apply for it as early as you like.

Applicants must note that you do not have to enter Tajikistan on the first day of entry as mentioned on the application form; you can enter at a later date as well. Similarly, you are permitted to leave the country before the 45 days are up, and you do not have to stay until the last day.

It is notable that the entry and exit date into Tajikistan are fixed and written on the visa. You cannot enter the country before the entry date or leave after the expiry date.

Double entry Visa: In the event that you want a double-entry visa into Tajikistan, you will still need to visit an embassy in order to obtain it. It is more convenient to just buy 2 E- Visas for each entry, as the process for obtaining a double visa is lengthy. However, applicants must note that you cannot buy a second E- Visa before you enter Tajikistan for the first time. The border guards will stamp the newest visa in order to allow you into the country, thus rendering the older E- Visa invalid. This means that you will have to buy the second E- Visa while you are already in Tajikistan, for a second entry into the country.

GBAO Permit

In the event that you wish to travel to the Pamir Mountains, the Pamir Highway and the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), you will need to attain a GBAO Permit. This security measure is necessary and requires these additional papers since part of the Pamir Highway runs along the border with Afghanistan.

At certain checkpoints along the Pamir Highway, the GBAO Permit will be checked by border patrol authorities. In order to be prepared, it is advisable that you should make 10 copies of the permit in advance, as each checkpoint along the Pamir Highway will keep a copy. These permits can be obtained at Tajikistan embassies when you are applying for a visa, online at the official E- Visa website, or at the OVIR (Department of Visas and Registration) Office in Dushanbe. All that you require for this permit is a valid passport.

In the event that you need a permit when you are in Tajikistan, it will take one day in order to receive a GBAO Permit valid for the length of your visa that allows you to travel through the entire Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, except Sarez Lake and Zorkul. The price for getting a GBAO Permit through various travel agencies varies from 30 to 50 USD, but costs only USD 20 when applying online along with your E- Visa. Please note that the GBAO Permits can be extended at any OVIR department in Tajikistan, along your route, for a maximum of 30 days.
