Re-test for DL renewal

If your driving licence has expired more than one year before, there will will DL retest . And in this case visit to RTO is mandatory to undertake DL test.

  2. After the age of 40 the Driving licence will be issued for 10 years & then 5 years subsequently.

2. Do we need to go to RTO for renewal of driving licence in Bangalore?

  1. Driving licence is smart card driving licence and DL data is available on the parivahan website. Driving licence has not expired more than one year before. In this scenario its possible to apply for renewal of driving licence online in Bangalore. RTO visit is not required in this case.
  2. Driving licence has expired more than one year before. In this scenario visit to RTO is mandatory.
  3. Driving licence is in the form of paper licence. Normally data of this type of driving licence is not available on the online portal of parivahan. In this scenario driving licence can not be applied online in Bangalore. For data entry of old DL into parivahan portal RTO visit is required. 3. How can I renew my driving licence online in Bangalore ?

  •  Visit the Parivahan portal’s official website to access online RTO services.
  • Navigate to the “Online Services” drop-down menu and select “DL Related Services”.
  • Select the state name “Bangalore” from the drop-down list on the next page.
  • Click on “Apply for DL Renewal”, read the instructions on the next page and click the “Continue” button.
  • Enter your DL number and date of birth, input the captcha code and click on “Get DL Details”.
  • Verify the DL details, select the DL category, state and RTO and click “Proceed”.
  • Select “DL Renewal” as the service type and fill out the online form.
  • Upload the required documents and click “Submit”.
  • Note the system-generated application number and print/download the acknowledgement receipt.
  • Pay the requisite driving licence fees online

4. What happens If an accident occurs after the expiry of your Driving Licence?

The Insurance Company will not provide the compensation if your driving licence is expired. So, its important to renew your driving licence once it expires. Also driving with expired driving licence is an offence as per motor vehicle act. 

5. What is the grace period for DL renewal in Karnataka?

There is grace period of one month for DL renewal in Karnataka from the date of expiry of driving licence. For each year's delay, you have to pay a fine of Rs. 1,000, along with the cost of renewal and smart card.

6. What is the cost of renewal of driving licence in Karnataka?

The RTO fees for renewal of driving licence in Karnataka is Rs. 200. There is additional fees of Rs. 200 for smart card diving licence.

There is a grace period of 30 days after the expiration date of a Driving Licence. If you apply for DL renewal within these 30 days, there will not be any late fine.

DL renewal after the grace period is also possible, but it increases the fees of the procedure. For each year's delay, you have to pay a fine of Rs. 1,000, along with the cost of renewal and smart card.

7. Can I renew my driving licence after the expiry date in Bangalore?

Yes, you can renew driving licence after expiry in Bangalore. There is one month grace period given for the renewal of DL. There will be no late fine during this grace period. There is late fine of Rs. 1000 per year once the grace period is over.
