How to Apply For Passport Online in India
You can apply for your Indian passport online, but it is not completely online.
- You can start your application online and fill out all the forms.
- But, to complete the process of applying passport, you still need to visit a passport office. In the PSK, they will verify your documents and take your biometrics.
The basic steps are that you have to follow
- Register on the Passport Seva Website
- Fill in your personal details
- Submit your passport application online and pay fees
- Visit Passport Seva Kendra
- Passport Police Verification
Now, here is the detailed breakdown of the steps that you can follow while applying for passport online.
Step 1: Register on the Passport Seva Website
- Go to the Passport Seva website
- Click “Register Now” and create account.
- Enter your details
- Select the Passport Office of your current city
- Click Register when done.
- Now that you’ve created your account, return to the Passport Seva website.
- Enter your registered Login Id, password and the characters in the image.
- Click Login.
Step 2: Fill in your Personal Details
- Click on “Apply for Fresh Passport/Reissue of Passport”.
- Now you have to choose between Fresh/Reissue > Normal or Tatkal > and number of pages (38 or 60). Click “Next”.
- Fill in your personal information correctly and carefully.
- Then click “Submit Application”
Note: While filling out the form you may come across the term “Is applicant eligible for Non ECR Category?” In this, you have to select yes, if you have completed your 10th graduation and you have certifications.

Step 3: Submiting Passport Application Online & Fee Payment
- Go to “View Saved/Submitted Applications”.
- Select your application and click “Pay and Schedule Appointment”.
- Choose “Online Payment” and click “Next”.
- Select your preferred Passport Seva Kendra and an available appointment slot.
- Click Pay and book appointment.
- Now you will redirected to a page – appointment confirmation with all the details of your appointment at the Passport Seva Kendra.
- Complete the online payment.
- Print the appointment confirmation receipt
- In next page you will see a detailed view of the application – again, click on Print Application Receipt.
- Now, preview of the receipt will appear. Again, click print application receipt to finally take a printout of the appointment confirmation.
Step 4: Visiting Passport Office
- Submit your application and show the online payment receipt
- Provide your biometric data (fingerprints and facial recognition)
Step 5: Passport Police Verification
- Police may visit your address or call you to the station
- They will ask for address proof and verify your address
- Police will generate a report and send it to the passport office
- If clear, your passport will be issued to you
