What is FSSAI?
FSSAI or The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is a Government certified authority that ensures that the foo business in India is running according to the government policies and regulations. It checks the quality and manufacturing of the product along with making sure that the food is unadulterated and maintains other specified standards. So, if you are in food busines or thinking of starting a business in this sector, you will need a Food License or FSSAI License. This license usually has a validity period of 1 to 5 years and after that you need a FSSAI License Renewal to renew your food license.
But first, some points about FSSAI license renewal
- After renewal, the renewed license will have the same 1-5 years of validity depending on the expansion period.
- You have to renew the food license 30 days before the expiry date.
- If you don’t renew the license before the expiry, you will have to pay Rs. 100/- every day from the day of expiry till the renewal as fine for late renewal.

Types of FSSAI License Renewal
Currently in India, FSSAI is allowing 3 types of food license renewal –
Basic FSSAI License Renewal
This is preferable for all FBO under basic registration. The condition is that the turnover is less than ₹12 Lakh. This license is issued by state government.
State FSSAI License Renewal
The State FSSAI license renewal is for SMEs like distributors, transports, storage houses, marketers etc. the company must have its activities and operations in only 1 state. Also, the turnover of the company should be within ₹12 Lakh- ₹20 Crore
Central FSSAI License Renewal
Central FSSAI License is export-oriented business companies, large manufacturers, operators in the Central Government Agencies, ports or airports, etc. The company should have a turnover of higher than Rs. 20 and the license will be issued from central government.

Required Documents for Basic FSSAI License renewal
You need these documents for basic FSSAI License renewal.
- Passport size photograph of the candidate
- Voter ID card or Aadhar Card
- Copy of PAN card
- Address Proof
- If you own the business place, a copy of property papers
- Copy of Rent agreement
- NOC letter from the landlord
Documents for State FSSAI License renewal
- Filled Form B with proper sign.
- Photo of Partner, Director, Authorized Signatory or Applicant
- Directors List with their ID proof
- Address proof of the Partner or Applicant
- Layout plan of the food processing unit
- Food category list for manufacturers
- Authorization letter by the manufacturer
- NOC from the municipality
- For manufacturers, they have to provide the name and number of equipment installed, capacity and horsepower.
- Copy of MOA and AOA.
- A cancelled cheque.
Documents for Central FSSAI License renewal
- Filled Form B with proper sign.
- Photo of Applicant or Partner or Authorized Signatory.
- Directors List with their ID proof
- Address proof
- Layout plan of the food processing unit
- Food category list for manufacturers
- Authorization letter by the manufacturer
- NOC from the municipality.
- For manufacturers, they have to provide the name and number of equipment installed, capacity and horsepower.
- Copy of MOA and AOA.
- A cancelled cheque.
- Proof of turnover
- The analysis report of water that will be used in the food
- IEC documents issued by DGFT
Online Procedure for FSSAI License Renewal
It is the easiest way for FSSAI License Renewal. It’s a very easy procedure. Here are all the steps.
- First, go to Welcome to Food Licensing & Registration System (fssai.gov.in) and if you don’t have an account, create your user id and password and register your account with FSSAI.
- Now log in with your registered account and go to ‘express renewal’.
- Enter license no and validity and submit.
- Now choose your renewal duration or validity of renewed license.
- Click proceed to payment. Download Form A and give signature and other details. Now save the filled form and click ‘choose’ and choose the filled form.
- Now click ‘upload’ and submit. It will direct you to the payment page.
- Pay in your preferable way. After payment, download the receipt.
- After submission of the application, you will get an application reference number. Use this reference number to track your application status.
The generated user ID is valid for 30 days. It usually gets 30 to 60 days to complete the process and get the renewed food license.
Offline Procedure for FSSAI License Renewal
To renewal your food license offline you have to follow a few steps
- First, download and print form A, B, and C and fill them based on which type of license renewal you are eligible for (state, central or basic license).
- Now attach a self-attested declaration and other documents.
- Next, your application gets examined by the concerned authority and inspects FBO’s operating bases.
- If everything goes right and your application is approved, the authorities will get your renewed FSSAI License in about 60 days.
