Uttarakhand Road tax

According to the provisions of the Uttarakhand Motor Vehicle Taxation Act, the Transport department is responsible for the collection of Uttarakhand Road tax from vehicle owners in Uttarakhand. The Uttarakhand road tax payment is made either annually or as a onetime tax. The registered vehicle owner who has possession of the vehicle has to fill up a Declaration form explaining the particulars of the vehicle and its use in Uttarakhand to the taxation authority.

The Uttarakhand road tax is utilized by the authorities to build new roads and maintain the existing roadways infrastructure. Road tax Uttarakhand was introduced in 2019 when the state decided to follow the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988. The Uttarakhand road tax has to be paid at the time of registration of the vehicle in respect of old motor vehicle. Thereafter, the road tax has to be paid in advance on or before the 15th day of January every year.

How to make Online road tax payment Uttarakhand?

You can make an online  road tax payment in Uttarakhand  at the time of registering your new vehicle at any RTO in Uttarakhand . You can pay the road tax online at the Vahan portal or Uttarakhand’s official Transport website. Follow the steps given below to pay Uttarakhand road tax.

  1. Go to Vahan website and type in your registration number. Click on “Proceed” option.
  2. Under the “Online Services” tab, click on the ‘Pay your tax’ option. Enter your mobile number to generate the OTP.
  3. Submit the OTP you received and click on the ‘Show Details’ option. Go thorough the displayed details and choose your tax mode.
  4. Choose your bank and payment gateway under ‘Payment’.
  5. Make your payment and take a print out of the road tax receipt.

Penalty for not paying Uttarakhand road tax

If you fail to pay the Uttarakhand road tax, you need to pay an additional Rs. 500 as a fine. If you continue to default on paying road tax, the Uttarakhand Government will impose a fine of Rs. 1,000 on you.
