Tanzania offers six types of visas for Indians:

1. Single Entry Visa (Ordinary Visa / Tourist Visa): This visa allows one entry for up to 3 months, suitable for vacations, business, health treatment, studies, leisure activities, or other recognized purposes.

2. Multiple Visa: Great for frequent visitors, this visa permits multiple entries within a validity period of 3 months to 1 year, with each stay not exceeding 90 days.

3. Transit Visa: For Indians passing through Tanzania to another foreign destination, this visa is granted for a maximum of 14 days and cannot be extended. It’s issued at the border or point of entry.

4. Business Visa: This visa is for temporary business, trade, professional, or assignment purposes, it’s valid for up to 3 months and cannot be extended.

5. Gratis Visa: Diplomatic, Service, and Official Passport holders receive gratis visas, except when traveling unofficially (fees apply). Individuals with UN, SADC, AU Laissez-Passer, and other recognized international organizations enjoy gratis visas, except for non-official travels.

6. Student Visa: Students planning to study, intern, or research in Tanzanian institutions should apply for this visa, tailored to their stay and purpose. It can be a Single Entry or Multiple Entry visa, with a maximum validity of 6 months for Indian language course students.

Tanzania visa requirements for Indians: Documents required for application

Documents required by Indians to apply for Tanzania Visa:-

Single Entry Visa Ordinary Visa / Tourist Visa

  1. Copy of your Valid passport at least for 6 months
  2. Duly filled-in Visa application form
  3. Visa fee receipt;
  4. 2 recent passport-sized photos
  5. Flight itinerary, ticket or tour operator package receipt.
  6. People travelling for specific reasons other than tourism must submit a letter from their organization or office. 
  7. Indians under the age of 18 who are travelling alone or with only one parent/legal guardians should be accompanied by a notarized letter, jointly signed by parents or legal guardian approving the minor to travel, and a copy of their ID proof.

Multiple Visa

  1. Valid passport at least for 6 months
  2. Duly filled-in Visa application form
  3. Duly filled-in Security Bond 
  4. A copy of invitee’s valid passport 
  5. 3 recent passport-sized photos
  6. Documents of  your Company like TIN, VAT, Registration Certificate, Certificate of Incorporation, Memorandum and so on;
  7. Any other proof to show that you used to travel frequently to Tanzania.

Transit Visa

  1. Copy of the Valid passport at least for 6 months
  2. An entry visa or onward ticket to the intended country of destination;
  3. Visa fee receipt 
  4. 2 passport-sized photos 

Business Visa

  • Copy of your valid passport (biographic data page)
  • Return flight ticket 
  • A work contract or any proof of the work/assignment to be performed within a period of not more than 3 months
  • Visa fee receipt 

Student Visa

  1. Copy of your valid passport (biographic data page)
  2. 50 USD, 250 USD or 550 USD Visa fee receipt depending on the category and duration of your stay.
  3. Covering letter from Tanzanian institution/college where you will be hosted. The letter must state the  attending course/field and duration of the programme.

Gratis Visa

Indians applying for a Gratis Visa should submit their applications online. They must hold Diplomatic Passports and upload an invitation letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, India, and East African Cooperation, along with the biographic data page or any page displaying the diplomatic passport attachment.

  2. Click “Apply for New Visa” button
  3. Enter your Email ID, Passport Number. Choose passport issue country as “India”. Choose your security question and answer.

  1. The Embassy doesn’t accept Cash and the visa fee is also non-refundable. 
  2. Make all checks and money orders payable to the Embassy of Tanzania in India.
  3. An additional bank-processing fee of 16.00 euros applies to foreign cheques. They do not accept stamp as payment.
  4. If you want your visa by the next day, you need to pay $50 extra. If you want your visa on the same day, you need to pay $100
