Indians can apply for a Hungary visa through VFS visa application centers. You need to fill out the application form and book an appointment. There are mainly two types of Hungary visas available for Indians: Schengen visas and Hungary National visas. 

• Schengen visa: It is a short-term visa that allows a stay of 90 days for 180 days of validity. You can get this visa for tourism or business purposes.
• National visa: It is a long-term visa that allows a stay of more than 180 days. You can get this visa for work or study purposes.

You need to make an appointment for all types of Hungarian visas. You must visit the visa application center in person.

How to book Hungary visa appointment

Following are the steps to book a Hungary visa appointment in India:

• Visit the official website of VFS Global
• Under “Book an appointment,” click on “Book now.” 
• Log in to your VFS Global account
• Click on “Start New Booking.”
• Enter the appointment details and click on the “continue” button
• Choose the date and timing
• Pay the VFS service fees
• Confirm the appointment

For a long-term Hungary visa, you must schedule an appointment through email.  Please write an appointment request letter to the Embassy of Hungary at appointment.del@mfa.gov.hu.  You must visit the Hungarian embassy on the given appointment.

Documents required at Hungary visa appointment 

The following documents are required at the time of appointment:

• Valid passport (at least 2 pages that are blank on both sides)
• Printout of the completed visa application form
• Proof of accommodation, such as hotel reservations
• Proof of financial means (bank statements)
• Personal cover letter
• Flight tickets 
• Travel insurance
• Recent photographs
• Additional documents

There are some specific documents required according to the type of Hungary visa.

1. Business trip:

• Invitation from the company or organization 
• Cover letter from the employer 

Both the letters must include:

• The purpose of visit (conference, meetings, training, or business-related events)
• Stay period

2. Purpose of tourism:

• Certificate of the travel agency confirming the booking

3. Purpose of visiting family/ friends:

• Invitation from a family member/friend, including their address and contact details
• Evidence of legal residence of family/friends visited: copy of passport or resident permit as applicable

4. Purpose of medical treatment:

• Certificate from a medical doctor/institute mentioning the need for specific medical treatment
• Proof of prepayment of the treatment

5. Purpose of airport transit:

• Visa of the destination country
• Onward journey tickets

You should prepare these documents carefully. If you fail to provide the correct documents, your visa application will not be processed. It may lead to the rejection or delay of the visa.

Things to do at the Hungary visa application center

You must visit the nearest visa application center after booking the Hungary visa appointment. The following things are done at the VAC:

• Arrive 15 minutes before your appointment time
• Submit your fingerprints and photograph. This process is known as Biometric information collection. A digital photo would be taken, and a digital finger scanner will collect images of all your 10 fingers
• The digital photograph will be taken with the full face and without sunglasses or head covering unless it is worn for religious reasons
• Ensure your fingertips are free from any form of decoration, such as mehndi, or cuts, as it will affect your ability to provide finger scans
• Submit the visa application and documents
• Pay the visa fees if you haven’t paid earlier
