Eligibility criteria for an Arya Samaj Marriage

  • Groom must be at least 21 years old. Bride must be at least 18 years old.
  • Any person who’s a Hindu, Buddhist, Jain and Sikh can perform Arya samaj marriage.
  • Any person who’s not Muslim, Christian, Parsis or Jews can also perform Arya samaj marriage.
  • Both inter- caste marriages and inter- religious marriages are eligible in Arya samaj marriage. But neither partner should be Muslim, Christian, Parsis or Jews.
  • Non-Hindu couples can marry if they first convert through a process called Shuddhi.

Suddhi –

  • Shuddhi is purification process in Hinduism that allows non Hindus to convert.

Documents required for Arya Samaj Marriage

The list of documents required for Arya samaj marriage is as follows:

  • Identity proof: Identity proof of bride and groom is required. You can submit Aadhaar card, voter ID, passport, or any valid government identity proof.
  • Birth proof: Birth proof of bride and groom is required. You can submit birth certificate, school leaving certificate, marksheet or PAN card.
  • Photographs: 8 passport size colour photographs of bride and groom are required.
  • Witnesses: Two witnesses from bride side and two witnesses from groom side are required. Witnesses must carry Aadhaar card, voter ID or passport as identity proof.
  • Affidavit: Affidavit is required if parents from both sides are not present during marriage. The affidavit will be arranged by the Arya samaj itself.
  • Divorcee: If bride or groom was married earlier and later divorced, legal divorce documents must be submitted.
  • Widow: If bride or groom is widowed, death certificate of former spouse must be submitted.
  • Foreign citizenship: If one partner is foreign citizen or holds foreign passport, person must submit certificate confirming current marital status. This certificate is called No Impediment Certificate or NOC and is issued by concerned embassy. Person must also submit valid visa and proof of foreign residential address.

Procedure for Arya Samaj Marriage Registration

  • Book appointment at Sub-Divisional Magistrate office. This step needs minimum 14 days. Start process before marriage date.
  • After finalising marriage date, pay advance amount to marriage office. Arya samaj marriage fees change from place to place. Payment can be done through cash, net banking, or other available methods.
  • Fill in registration form.
  • Submit all required documents and proofs – Submit two passport size photographs of bride and groom. Also submit one marriage photograph. Invitation card is optional.
  • Two witnesses from each side must be present on same day. Witnesses must sign forms physically. Attestation by gazetted officer is compulsory.
  • When all formalities are done, magistrate’s office will issue marriage certificate.
