There is good news for the owners of 15 years old cars and bikes . A proposed vehicle scrapping policy has been submitted to a committee of Secretaries by The Ministry of Road transport. The policy intends to scrap medium and heavy commercial vehicles (MHCVs) that are more than 15 years old and excludes passenger cars.
It was observed that the number of cars or light motor vehicles (LMVs) that are more than 15 years old are 40 lakhs and contribute only 3 percent of vehicular pollution. The overall contribution of LMVs is insignificant hence they have been exempted under this programme.
