You have to apply at the registrar's office and follow processes like payment of fees and verification are done at the same office. Finally, you will get a copy of the marriage certificate from the office, which may take approximately 45 days from the date of application.

In Delhi , Marriage registration is done under Normal and under Tatkal scheme based on requirement . Cost varies for both the process. Marriage registration will be done at SDM office based on the area of jurisdiction of either place of residence or place of marriage.

Marriage registration - Documents Required

  • Documentary evidence of date of birth of parties (Matriculation Certificate/Passport/Birth Certificate)
  • Address Proof of husband or wife whose area SDM has been approached for the marriage certificate (Voterid/Passport/ Adhar card/ Driving License)
  • Aadhar card of both husband & wife
  • Affidavit by both the parties stating place and date of marriage, date of birth, marital status at the time of marriage and nationality.
  • Two passport size photographs of both the parties and one marriage photograph
  • Marriage invitation card
  • If marriage was solemnized in a religious place, a certificate from the priest is required who solemnized the marriage
  • 2 witness having ID card & photograph
  • Attested copy of divorce decree/order in case of a divorcee and death certificate of spouse in case of widow/widower.
