Driving License Renewal- Overview
A person who possesses a driving licence has to renew it after expiry as it is not issued for a lifetime.It can be renewed within 5 years from the date of its expiry. Penalty for late renewal is charged after the first 30 days of expiry. There is fine of Rs. 1000 per year in case applying for renewal of Driving License after the expiry of grace period.
The driving licence renewal application process is the same for commercial and non-commercial types of licence. Both require you to fill in basic information in forms and submit relevant documents, but some more requirements are needed in the case of a commercial licence.
The validity of a renewed driving licence depends on the age of the driver. While applying for DL renewal, you can make changes to your driving licence if required, like change in address etc. This process is done at the RTO Mumbai using offline mode or one can use an online application process for renewing a driving licence.
The government of Maharashtra is currently providing the following service in a contactless method to improve the delivery of services to RTO offices. It will be possible for citizens who use Aadhaar authentication to apply for these services online and without requiring to go to RTO offices.
Only if all of the information on your Aadhaar card, including name, relation name, and date of birth, perfectly matches the driving licence record in the RTO database will these services be provided in contactless mode. The applicant will get a Speed Post delivery of their driving licence card (if necessary) at the specified address.
