Types of Austria Visa

There are mainly three types of Austria visas for Indians on the basis of stay duration.

Schengen Type C visa/ Short stay visa: It allows to stay in the Schengen Area for a maximum of 90 days for the validity of 180 days. 

  1. Schengen Tourist Visa- This is a short-term Visa issued to applicants who wish to visit Austria only for tourism purposes. This Visa allows the applicant to stay in Austria, or travel within the Schengen countries, for a maximum period of 90 days. The tourist visit visa is valid for a period of 180 days after the date of issue and must be used within this time.
  2. Schengen Business Visa- Visitors can apply for a Schengen Business Visa if they intend to travel to Austria for commercial or business purposes. The holder of this Visa is permitted to travel to, and stay for up to 90 days in, Austria to attend a business meeting, conference, exhibition, workshop, event pertaining to international business. However, this visa does not permit visitors to work in Austria, join the country’s labour force or receive any income from the country, unless the Immigration Service has explicitly granted the holder this right. The business visa is valid for a period of 180 days after the date of issue and must be used within this time.
  3. Schengen Visitor Visa: Indian citizens can apply for the Schengen Visitor Visa if they plan to travel to Austria, or the Schengen Area countries, for the purpose of visiting family or friends. Obtaining this visa requires a sponsorship letter from the person who holds a residence permit of the Schengen country.

Long Stay Visa/ National Visa: If you want to stay more than 90 days in Austria you can apply for National visa .

Documents Required for Austria Visa

  1. One fully completed application form
  2. An original passport with a validity of at least three months. It must contain at least two blank pages at the end. There must be no alteration or handwritten amendment regarding the biodata page. A copy of the applicant’s present passport showing the details of previous visas, and travels etc.
  3. Two passport sized photographs. They must be in colour, and less than 6 months old.
  4. The minimum travel insurance coverage per person must be EUR 30 000.
  5. Cover letter which explains the purpose of the trip along with the itinerary including detailed location(s) and duration of stay in Austria.
  6. Proof of sufficient funds by submitting original bank statements of the last three (3) months and / or other funds available to applicant like pension etc. and Income Tax Returns or Income Tax Acknowledgement or ITR-V from the last three (3) years
  7. Proof of round-trip flight reservations and travel itinerary through airline or flight booking
  8. Proof of accommodation such as hotel reservation / letter from tour organizer and / or other appropriate documentation 

Additional documents as per occupation

  1. If applicant is employed, they must attach the salary certificates of the last three (3) months of their present occupation, employment contract and the company NOC to visit Austria.
  2. If the applicant is self-employed, they must submit the applicable CIN Certificate/ LLP certificate/ GST certificate/ Udhyog Aadhar Memorandum/Import Export Certificate etc. to prove the ownership.
  3. If the applicant is a student, they must submit a NOC from school or college
  4. If the applicant is retired: Pension statement for the previous 6 months and Proof that regular income has been received from property or rent within the last 6 months (if any).
  5. For minor travelers: Minor who is being accompanied by one parent must provide an Original notarized No Objection Certificate (NOC) by the other parent, along with copies of both parents’ passports or valid ID proof. Minor travelling alone must provide an Original notarized NOC by both parents / legal guardians, along with copies of both parents’ passports or valid ID proof.

Additional documents for business purposes:

  1. Invitation letter from the company in Austria applicant will be visiting and their complete address along with the dates of the visit
  2. A certificate from your employer allowing the business travel and stating the details about the trip.
  3. Proof of previous trade relations between the two companies, if such events have occurred.
  4. Bank statement of the last 6 months of the company
