Egypt is a country of the pyramids, the Sphinx, rich Egyptian culture, exotic food and much more. Indians who want to travel to Egypt need an Egyptian visa. 

An Egypt Visa allows entry to Egypt for foreigners. 

Egypt does not allow visa-on-arrival for Indian passport holders. However, Indians who have diplomatic and official passports are exempted from Egypt visas.

  1. Indians can avail of an Egypt e-visa or apply for a valid Egypt visa from the Egyptian Embassy/Consulates in India.
  2. People who have confirmed onward flight tickets to their next destination can transit for a maximum of 48 hours. If your transit time is greater than 6 hours, you can leave the airport. If the transit time is less than 6 hours, you can leave the transit port but not the airport. 
  3. When you enter Egypt, show a print out of your valid Egypt e-Visa, passport, hotel details, travel itinerary and a letter of the company or invitation letter from family/friends to the immigration officer.  
  4. There is one Embassy of Egypt in New Delhi and one Consulate General of Egypt in Mumbai.

Types of Egypt Visa

There are three types of Egyptian visas. They are as follows:

  1. Tourist Visa: A tourist visa allows you to travel to Egypt for tourism purposes. The visa is valid for 3 months, but you can only stay in Egypt for 30 days. You can extend an Egypt tourist visa for another 90 days at the Egypt Passport and Immigration Administration.  You need a copy of your passport, your Egypt visa, and sufficient money to pay for the processing fee for the extension of your visa.
  2. Business Visa: A business visa allows Indians to attend business meetings or engage in business activities in Egypt.
  3. Transit Visa: If your transit time is greater than 48 hours, you need a transit visa. 
  4. Egypt e-Visa: the most popular form of visa. You can apply for an e-Visa for tourist or business purposes. The visa is valid for 90 days, but you can stay in Egypt for a maximum of 30 days. E-visas are available in single-entry and multiple-entry formats.

  1. A passport that is valid for at least 6 months from your arrival in Egypt.
  2. Printout of Egypt's e-visa
  3. Travel itinerary
  4. A letter from the company, a leave letter for business trips, and an invitation letter for family visits.
  5. Details of hotel accommodation if you are traveling as a tourist.
  6. Medical Insurance
  7. 2 current passport-sized pictures with a white background.
  8.  Proof of sufficient funds to stay and travel to Egypt
  9. A marriage certificate if you are married

How to apply for Egypt Visa?

You can apply for an Egyptian e-visa at the Egypt e-Visa Portal.

The steps to apply for an e-Visa are: -

  1. Create an account by clicking on the “Sign up” button. Fill out all your details and create a password.
  2. Sign in with your email ID and password.
  3. Select “Apply now." Choose the type of Egyptian visa you want. 
  4. Fill out the e-visa application form.
  5. Pay the fees.
  6. Await your approval.
  7. You can download the e-visa from the link mailed to you. You can also download the link by logging into the account. 
  8. At the time of arrival, present the printed e-visa to the immigration officer. 

You can apply for an Egyptian visa at the nearest Embassy/Consulate General of Egypt in India. The steps to apply for an Egyptian visa at the Egyptian embassy or consulate are:

  1. Download the visa application form. For applications in Delhi click on this link and for applications in Mumbai click on this link.
  2. Sign and fill up all the relevant information in the visa application form. Gather the documents. 
  3. Take an appointment from the Embassy/Consulate of Egypt
  4. Submit the visa application form and provide the documents to the officers for verification.
  5. Pay the prescribed fees in cash
  6. When your visa is approved, you can collect it from the Embassy/Consulate itself. You will be notified via email or SMS.

The Egypt Visa fees can be paid online via Master/Debit/Credit/Visa Cards or Net Banking. The fee is non-refundable and subject to change as per the foreign exchange rates.

How to track Egypt’s Visa application status?
You can track the status of your Egypt e-Visa application by logging into the same account with which you sent submitted your visa application in the first place. Go to the e-Visa portal and select on “Apply Now” tab. Log into your account and check your application status.
