Greece visa types

There are two main types of Greece visas for Indians available. They are:

  1. Type C visa
  2. Type D visa

Type C Schengen visa is mainly for those individuals who wish to visit and/or stay in Greece and other Schengen countries for 90 days or less. The visa will be valid for a period of 6 months. The 90 days that the individual can spend in these countries can be split over the 6 months. Under this category of visas, depending on the purpose of travel, the documents required may differ. The purposes can range from tourism, business, study, cultural or sports reasons, for medical treatments, transit to another country, and even seamen.

Type D Schengen visa is for those individuals who wish to be in Greece for more than 90 days. The purpose of this kind of visa also varies. The purposes can range from participation in religious, scientific, or cultural events, to work, long term studies, research, or even family reunions. 

If the applicant has a diplomatic, service and/or public affairs passport, they can directly submit the visa application at the visa department of the Embassy/Consular Office in New Delhi.

  • Completely filled and signed Greece visa application form
  • 2 copies of passport size pictures which follow the guidelines:
  1. color picture
  2. white background
  3. 1.2 x 1.6 inches in dimension
  4. face should be facing straight
  • Passport with a validity of a minimum of three months from the return date to India.  The passport should be issued in the last 10 years and should have two or more blank visa pages. A copy of the identification page and all past visa pages should be submitted.
  • Proof of financial status. Should include recent documents such as bank statements, income records, tax receipts. 
  • Evidence of civil status such as marriage certificate, spouses death certificate, ration cards, if applicable.
  • Medical travel insurance covering up to at least 30,000 euros of medical treatment. The insurance should be valid in all Schengen Areas for the validity of the entire visa duration.

  2. Create an account on website . You will then be able to log in to the website where the form is available. 
  3. The form is available on this official website .
  4. On the same website, after filling the form, you will be able to book a meeting with the GVCW Visa Application Center for Greece.
  5. Reach the application center at the mentioned date and timing and ensure that you carry a copy of your appointment letter and the necessary documents.

The Global Visa Center World (GVCW) Visa Application Center for Greece is an authorized center to collect visa applications on behalf of the Diplomatic and Consular Authorities of Greece.

  1. For a visa valid for up to a year, single and multiple entries, it is €95 which is INR 8,432.96.
  2. For a visa valid for up to five years, single and multiple entries, it is €190 which is INR 16,865.92.

Visa Processing Time

In light of the rapid increase in visa applications, the processing of a Greek visa for Indians will take a minimum of 22 days if you are submitting the documents to the New Delhi Embassy. If you are submitting it to different visa application centers, it will take 27 days.

Visa Tracking

You can track your visa using this website. Enter your Visa Application ID in the first box and the passport number in the latter box. Click submit and you will be redirected to a page which shows the current status of your visa application.


On the same website, you can track when your passport will be ready for collection. When your passport is ready for collection, you can visit the visa center. The payment receipt which was given to you when you submitted your documents for your visa has to be given to the individual at the counter to get your passport back. Along with this, you also need to carry your official ID. The passport collections and visa application submission times are all mentioned here. You can also authorize someone to collect your passport for you. For someone else to collect the passport on your behalf, you will also need fill and sign this form and ask the authorized individual to bring the payment receipt, their ID and a photocopy of their ID, and the applicant's ID.
