Types of Iceland visas for Indians on the basis of stay duration.

Schengen Type C visa/ Short stay visa: It allows to stay in the Schengen Area for a maximum of 90 days for the validity of 180 days. You can apply for short stay visa for following purposes.

  1. Tourism: It is granted to people who wish to enter the Iceland for tourism, travel and leisure purposes only. Iceland allows Indians to stay in the country for travel period of less than 90 days.. 
  2. Business: It allows the Indians to enter the Iceland and engage in business activities, meetings, conferences and trade fairs.
  3. Family visit: This includes meeting family members and relatives who live in Iceland, reunions, or any situation concerning the same. 

Long Stay Visa/ National Visa: If you want to stay more than 90 days in Icelandyou can apply for National visa .

Airport transit visa: If you have to change flight at Iceland airport due to layoveryou can apply for airport transit visa .

Documents for Iceland Visa from India

Following are the mandatory documents required for Iceland visa 
  1. The applicant’s passport must be valid for a minimum three months with at least two blank pages
  2. Application form- The applicant must submit a fully completed Iceland visa application form.
  3. One recent original passport-size colour photograph with a white background. The photograph should be fairly recent, that is, not more than six months old.
  4. Covering letter with details such as explaining the purpose of visit, duration & itinerary of the visit in brief.
  5. Travel Medical Insurance: The minimum policy coverage should be 30,000 Euro and this insurance policy must cover all Schengen countries.
  6. Proof of Means of Transport – Applicants need their flight reservation of return or round ticket. 
  7. Proof of accomodation:The applicant’s hotel reservations, receipt of renting a holiday home or campus residence reservation are required as proof. Proof of sponsorship and private accommodation from the host is required, if the applicant intends to stay with a family member or a friend in Iceland. 
  8. Proof of Financial means- The applicant’s original bank statement showing their transactions in the last three months, duly stamped and signed by the bank authority, or Indian income tax return statement acknowledging returns for the last two assessment years are required for the Iceland visa application form. 

Additional documents as per occupation

If employed

    1. Current employment contract
    2. Copy of current bank statement of the latest 6 months
    3. No-objection certificate from current employer
    4. Income Tax Return (ITR) form or Certificate of Income Tax of the last three months, which has been deducted at the source of salary of the applicant

    If the applicant is self-employed or an owner of a company:

    1. A copy of their business license
    2. Copy of the company bank statement of the latest 6 months
    3. Income Tax Return (ITR) of the company

    If the applicant is retired:

    1. Pension statement for the previous 6 months
    2. Proof that regular income has been received from property or rent within the last 6 months (if any).

    Minor Applicant

    1. if the minor is travelling with only one parent, written consent of the other parent or guardian certified by a public notary is required.
    2. In the event that the minor is travelling to Iceland alone, without a legal guardian, written consent from both the parents or guardians having full custody of the minor, certified by a public notary is required. Additionally, copies of the passport of the parents are required. If the parents do not hold passports, then the birth certificate of the applicant and copies of Identity proof of the parents must be submitted.
    3. Either both parents or legal guardians must accompany all minors to the Visa Office, to sign the application form in front of a VFS officer. In cases where the child is traveling with one parent to visit the other parent who is residing in Iceland, this clause is dropped.

    If the applicant is being sponsored,

    1. An invitation letter with the address and phone number from the family or company that is sponsoring is required.
    2. Bank statement of the last 6 months

    Additional documents as per purpose of visit

    1. For Tourist visa
      1. A certificate from the travel agency confirming the booking of an organized trip of the applicant (if any)
      2. Any other appropriate document indicating the travel plans of the applicant, including period and reason of visit.
      3. If applicant is married and cannot provide evidence of marital status in the passport, a marriage certificate must be submitted. If required, the applicant may also submit a copy of their ration card.
    2. For Business visa:
      1. Invitation letter from the company in Iceland applicant will be visiting and their complete address along with the dates of the visit
      2. A certificate from your employer allowing the business travel and stating the details about the trip.
      3. Both the invitation letter as well as letter from employer must confirm the following details:
      4. The purpose of the applicant’s visit to Iceland. This can be meetings, conferences, training or other business related events.
      5. The period and place of the applicant’s intended stay, while in Iceland.
      6. Proof of previous trade relations between the two companies, if such events have occurred.
      7. Bank statement of the last 6 months of the company
      8. The coverage of applicant’s expenses during their stay in Iceland must be proved by either the employer or the host company who is hosting the applicant, on the letter or invitation.

    Iceland Visa Processing Time for Indians

    In most cases, the visa will be processed within 15 working days. However, in some rare events, this period may be extended to a maximum of 60 days if the Embassy finds any discrepancies or missing information in your application. After your Iceland Visa application has been approved, you will be contacted by the Embassy on the phone number or email address you have registered. You may then collect your passport from the collection center at the Embassy. You must collect your passport yourself.
