Types of Iceland Visa

There are different types of Iceland visas for Indian applicants, depending on how long you plan to stay and purpose of your visit.

Schengen Type C visa/ Short stay visa: This visa allows you to stay in Schengen area for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. It is suitable for short visits to Iceland for different purposes:

  1. Tourism: It is granted to people who want to enter Iceland for tourism, travel and leisure purposes only. You can stay in Iceland for less than 90 days for tourism purposes.
  2. Business: It allows the Indians to enter the Iceland and engage in business activities, meetings, conferences and trade fairs.
  3. Family visit: You can use this visa to visit family members or relatives living in Iceland, including family gatherings or reunions. 

Long Stay Visa/ National Visa: If you plan to stay in Iceland for more than 90 days, you need to apply for a National visa. This visa is required for long-term stays such as work, study, or residence.

Airport transit visa: If you have to change flight at Iceland airport due to layoveryou can apply for airport transit visa .

Documents for Iceland Visa from India

Following are the mandatory documents required for Iceland visa 
  • Passport valid for at least 3 months with 2 blank pages
  •  Fully completed Iceland visa application form.
  • One recent passport size photo (white background, not older than 6 months)
  • Cover letter with purpose, travel dates and short itinerary
  • Travel medical insurance with minimum coverage of 30,000 € (valid for all Schengen countries)
  • Flight reservation (return or round trip)
  • Proof of stay (hotel booking, rental, or invitation from host)
  • Proof of funds (last 3 months bank statement or last 2 years ITR

Additional documents as per occupation

If employed

    1. Current employment contract
    2. Copy of current bank statement of the latest 6 months
    3. No objection certificate from current employer
    4. Income Tax Return or TDS certificate (last 3 months from your salary)

    If the applicant is self-employed or an owner of a company:

    1. Copy of their business license
    2. Copy of the company bank statement (last 6 months)
    3. Income Tax Return (ITR) of the company

    If the applicant is retired:

    1. Pension statement for the previous 6 months
    2. Proof that regular income has been received from property or rent within the last 6 months (if any).

    Minor Applicant

    1. If minor travels with one parent, you need consent letter from other parent or guardian, signed and notarized.
    2. If minor travels alone, you need consent from both parents or guardians, signed and notarized. Also submit copies of parents’ passports. If they do not have passports, submit child’s birth certificate and parents’ ID proof.
    3. Both parents or guardians must visit visa center with minor to sign application in front of VFS officer.
    4. This rule does not apply if child travels with one parent to visit other parent living in Iceland.

    If the applicant is being sponsored,

    1. Invitation letter with the address and phone number from the family or company that is sponsoring is required.
    2. Bank statement for last 6 months

    Additional documents as per purpose of visit

    • For Tourist visa
      1. Certificate from travel agency confirming the booking of organized trip of the applicant (if any)
      2. Any other appropriate document indicating the travel plans of the applicant, including period and reason of visit.
      3. Marriage certificate if marital status is not shown in passport

      • For Business visa
        1. Invitation letter from Iceland company with full address and visit dates
        2. Letter from your employer approving business travel with trip details

        Both letters must have:

          • Purpose of visit (meetings, conference, training, etc.)
          • Duration and place of stay in Iceland
          • Proof of previous business relation (if any)
          • Company bank statement for last 6 months
          • Proof of who will cover your expenses (employer or host company)
