Many Indian tourists visit Indonesia for a vacation because of rich biodiversity and cultural heritage, gorgeous islands and beaches. Also, it is one of the most popular places for surfing and yoga retreats in the world. Indonesia is the biggest island country in the world and is well- known because of Bali, Java, Sumatra and Sulawesi. However, if an Indian tourist wants to visit Indonesia, they must plan the number of days of stay in advance.   

Indian passport holders can get a Indonesia visa on arrival (VOA). It means that Indians can travel “visa- free” to Indonesia and get a visa stamp on arrival. They are not required to apply for Indonesian business or tourist visas to visit the country. However, it is possible only for a maximum of 30 days. If the tourists wish to stay in the country for a longer duration, they will need to apply for an Indonesia visa for Indians. In other words we can say, Indonesia visa for Indian is required when Indians are planning to stay in the country for more than 30 days otherwise they are required to apply for visa on arrival.

As mentioned above, Indonesia visa for Indians is only needed if an applicant wishes to stay in the country for longer than 30 days. However, if they decide to stay longer in Indonesia, some important documents are required. 

The required travel documents that an applicant needs to gather for the visa application are as follows:

  1. A passport with its validity for at least 6 months from the date of arrival
  2. At least 3 black pages in the passport 
  3. Two passport sized photographs with white background
  4. A visa application form
  5. Return flight tickets
  6. Proof of accommodation. For example- hotel bookings 
  7. Proof of sufficient funds. For example- bank statements
  8. Travel itinerary
  9. Health insurance 
  10. Copy of the host’s ID
  11. A cover letter, sponsor letter, or invitation letter from an Indonesian citizen 
  12. Visa approval letter or guarantee letter from an Indonesian citizen if an applicant is applying online

Apply for Indonesia Visa Online

An individual person or company based in Indonesia can apply for a visa approval letter on an applicant’s behalf. However, that person or company must be registered with the Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration. 

The process of registration is entirely online and very simple. Once they register on the website and receive their registration approval, they can apply for a visa approval or a guarantee letter for an applicant.

How to apply for Indonesia visa for Indians?

Indians do not have a visa exemption entry in Indonesia. So, they have to apply for a visa to enter the county. To apply for Indonesia visa for Indians, there are three ways:

  1. Indonesia visa on arrival or VOA for Indians 
  2. Indonesia electronic visa or E-visa for Indians
  3. Indonesia embassy visa for Indians

Indonesia visa on arrival or VOA for Indians

The easiest way to travel to Indonesia from India is by getting the visa on arrival for Indian citizens. The list of required documents is also very short.

On the day of an applicant’s flight, the cabin crew will hand them a Passenger Arrival Card which is to be filled out. Upon landing in Indonesia, Indian citizens must queue at the Customs Passport Control (Immigration desk) with the following documents:

  1. A passport with its validity of at least 6 months on arrival
  2. A return ticket or connecting ticket to continue travelling in another country
  3. Duly filled Passenger Arrival Card
  4. Visa fees for VOA for tourism purposes

If an applicant wishes to stay longer in Indonesia, they must apply for a visa which is valid for a more extended period. After this, the immigration officer will stamp their passport with the entry stamp. Additionally, a VOA can also be extended before the visa’s expiry. 

Indonesia embassy visa for Indians 

  1. The Indonesian embassy provides the Indian citizens with consular assistance such as visa issuance. Since Indians can get VOA, a consular visa is not necessary. 
  2. If an applicant wishes to stay in Indonesia for a longer duration, they must get a consular visa. For the visa application, it is important to gather all the important documents (mentioned above).
  3. The applicant is required to pay the visa fees and submit those documents to the Indonesian embassy in Kautilya Marg, New Delhi. They can also find detailed information on the Indonesian embassy.
  4. Visa Processing Time: Once the documents have been submitted, the visa application will be processed which will take between 3 to 5 working days. After this, an applicant can collect their passport and visa.  

Note: An applicant will need to show proof of payment upon collecting the passport and visa from the Indonesian embassy. 

Indonesia electronic visa or E-visa for Indians

Indians can also apply for an Indonesia E-visa online. However, they will need a sponsor or guarantee letter from an individual or company in Indonesia. If an applicant has a sponsor, they will be eligible for an Indonesia E-visa. 

  1. To apply for an Indonesian E-visa, an applicant must visit the Online Visa Portal and register or create a new account. 
  2. Once created, you must login and click on  “Create Application” and enter all the details, such as:
  3. Visa type
  4. Purpose of trip
  5. Personal details
  6. Travel details such as places to visit and stay in Indonesia 
  7. Date of sponsor or guarantor 
  8. Upload all the documents
  9. Visa Processing Time: Once the online application form is submitted, wait for the visa approval. The Visa Processing Time for visa approval is 4-5 days which will be sent to an applicant via email. 

Note: The visa received via email must be printed out and carried to Indonesia for verification upon arrival.

Indonesia Visa fees for Indians

The Indonesia visa fees for Indians depend on the type of visa and how to apply for it. For an embassy visa, the fees must be deposited in the bank account of the Indonesian embassy. The visa and consular fees is mentioned as follows:

  1. Single entry visa for 180 days stay: INR 31, 750
  2. Single entry visa for tourism for 60 days stay: INR 7,940
  3. Single entry visa for 60 days stay: INR 10,590 
  4. The visa fees for visa on arrival (VOA) are approximately INR 2700. If an applicant applies online, the sponsor or guarantor will receive the payment email with all the details. However, they will have 7 days to pay the fees for E-visa before the application process gets cancelled.
