For Ireland visa for Indians , the central department that deals with visas is the Irish Immigration Service. So for Indians, there are two schemes that allow them to enter Ireland without a separate visa. 

  1. The first scheme is BIVS (British and Irish Visa Scheme). In this scheme, if the Indian individual has a valid UK visa, they are allowed to enter Ireland without an Irish visa. The duration of the stay however, depends upon the border force of UK. 
  2. The second scheme is the Short Stay Visa Waiver Program (SSVWP). This scheme allows an individual holding an Indian passport to stay in Ireland for no more than 90 days, if they also have a valid UK short stay visa and their estimated departure date is before the end of the validity period of the aforementioned UK visa.

Ireland has several different kinds of Irish visas available for Indians and foreigners. This includes:

  • Work visas
  1. ATWS nurse
  2. A business visa is needed if the travel is for business purposes, and the individual is invited by an Irish host company. 
  3. A conference or event visa is needed if you are traveling to attend a conference or an event. 
  4. An employment (critical skills, general, scientific researcher) visa is needed if you are working and are employed in a company working out of Ireland. 
  5. Film crew and cast members who are traveling to Ireland can apply for this visa after being permitted to do so by the Atypical Working Scheme division of the Irish government. 
  6. Interview visas are needed for individuals traveling to Ireland to give job/educational interviews.
  7. Joining a ship departing from Ireland, as a seafarer. 
  8. A "lay volunteer" visa is a volunteer visa that allows you to work with an organization as a volunteer for up to 2 years. 
  • Visit visas

  2. Medical treatment visa is for those traveling to Ireland for medical reasons.

  • Study visas
  1. Internship visas are for those employed with a full-time internship in Ireland.
  2. Exam visas are short stay visas that are needed by individuals going to Ireland to sit for an exam pertinent to their education or occupation.
  3. A student visa is for students enrolled in educational institutions in Ireland.
  4. A training visa is for those undergoing educational or work based training in Ireland.
  • Residency visas
  1. Marriage or civil partnership with an Irish citizen allows you to get a visa that permits you to live and work in Ireland with your partner.
  • Family visas/Join Visa
  1. Join family is needed if the individual’s family member(s) are Irish citizens, or are permanent residents of Ireland.
  2. Join Spouse is needed if the individual’s partner is an Irish citizen, or are permanent residents of Ireland
  3. Visiting family/friend

Those looking to visit Ireland as tourists should apply for the ‘C’ visa, which is valid for short term purposes. Tourism, medical treatment, study, visitation, and marriage visas are all type C visas. The visa is valid for no more than 90 days.

  • Printed copy of the completed AVATS, which is the online application form, with signature and date. 
  • Visa Application Letter with your reasons for your visit, dates, accommodation details, and details of the individual financing the stay.
  • Details about accommodations along with confirmation of the same. 
  • Medical and/or travel insurance details are necessary for your actual visit to Ireland. It is not compulsory to submit it with your application, but it is recommended. 
  • Visa application fee payment proof. 
  • Current passport with a validity of 6 months or more from your date of departure from Ireland. Copy of all pages from all old passports. In cases where the individual is traveling to or from Ireland to another country and not the home country, a letter outlining the details of the same needs to be attached. 
  • 2 passport sized photographs Each photograph needs to have the individual's name, signature, and visa application transaction number on the back side. The Ireland visa photo size has to adhere to the following rules:
  1. 45 to 55mm high and 35 to 38 mm wide, printed on photographic paper with the reverse side being white and with no glaze. 
  2. Colored image, white/light gray background.
  3. The picture cannot be overexposed, blurry, have a color imbalance, have red eyes, or have shadows or glares. Ensure a contrast between face and background.
  4. Not more than 6 months old.
  5. Face and top of shoulders to be captured, with the face covering most of the image. The face should be centered without any tilt, and the eyes should be looking directly straight. 
  6. Neutral expression, open eyes and closed mouth.
  7. No eyewear allowed, except for prescription glasses.
  8. No head covering is allowed, except for that worn for religious purposes. Even then, the face should be visible. 
  • Financial documents including bank statement with name, address, bank number, account type, and transactions. 
  • Proof that the individual will be returning home. Social, familial, or economic ties to the individual’s home country needs to be evidenced. This can include evidence of property you own/rent, letter from the individuals college/place of employment, existence of individuals dependent on you who is living in the home country (parents, children, spouses, etc).
  • Travel history in cases where the individual has been refused visas before, been deported, been refused entry, or being required to leave from any country.

How To Apply

Apply for Ireland Visa Online

  1. Fill in the AVATS form, which is available here.
  2. Log on to the online visa application system.
  3. Click on ‘Apply Now’, acknowledge the message in the yellow box at the bottom of the page and proceed to the AVATS form. 
  4. Fill in the necessary details, with the reason for travel as ‘Visit Tourist’ visa type being ‘Short Stay (C)’, and then proceed on to complete the form. 
  5. Pay the stipulated visa application fee.
  6. Present all the aforementioned documents for processing of your visa application when and where conveyed. The authorities will convey this to you once your application has been created online
