Types of Malaysia Visa

There are three types of visas, depending on the duration of stay: -

1. Single Entry Visa (SEV) – Indians are granted SEV if they have to make a single trip to Malaysia for a social visit or other purposes. You can apply for SEV with or without reference. You can apply for SEV without reference for social visits.  SEV is valid for 3 months only. The different types of SEV are as follows: -

  1. eVisa for Tourist – Issued to Indians who want to visit Malaysia for a single journey for tourism, business or social visits. 
  2. eVisa for Expatriate - Issued to Indians who want to visit Malaysia for a single journey seeking professional employment. You need to apply for a long-term pass after you enter Malaysia with this visa. 
  3. eVisa for Foreign Workers - Issued to Indians who want to visit Malaysia for a single journey seeking temporary employment. You need to apply for a long-term pass after you enter Malaysia with this visa. 
  4. eVisa for Students - Issued to Indians who want to visit Malaysia for a single journey for study purposes. You need to apply for a long-term pass after you enter Malaysia with this visa.
  5. eVisa for Medical Treatment - Issued to Indians who want to visit Malaysia for a single journey for medical treatment. 


2. Multiple-Entry Visa (MEV) – Multiple-entry visa is issued to those who have to make frequent visits to Malaysia. MEV is issued for the following purposes: -

  1. Business 
  2. Wedding 
  3. Medical Treatment
  4. Fly and Cruise
  5. Tourism

Multiple-entry Visa extension is not allowed. Indians can stay for 30 days per visit. Multiple-entry visas are granted with validity for 3 months to 1 year. 

3. Transit Visa: Indians who wish to transit from Malaysia to another destination is granted Transit Visa. Indians in transit who don’t leave the airport premises or who continue their journey to the next destination with the same flight do not require a transit visa.

P.S.:

  1. The Visa-on-arrival facility is only available for those Indians who enter Malaysia via flight, land or sea routes from the following countries: Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, or Brunei. Indians should also have a valid visa for these countries and meet some other requirements to obtain a visa-on-arrival. 
  2. Transit without Visa facility (TWOV) is currently suspended. TWOV allows Indians transit time of 5 days without a visa provided they meet some conditions.

Documents required for Malaysia Visas

The following documents are required to apply for Malaysian Visas: -

  1. Original passport which has to be valid for at least 6 months.
  2. 2 photocopies of the passport
  3. 2 photocopies of Form IMM.47
  4. 2 passport-sized photos 
  5. Original and two 2 photocopies confirmed and return flight tickets.
  6. Proof of sufficient to support your stay in Malaysia. 
  7. Bank statement/traveller’s cheque
  8. Invitation/Cover letter (if any)
  9. Proof of accommodation during your stay. If you are staying at a friend/relative’s place, do provide their ID and mobile number.

  12. Copy of birth certificate if you are less than 12 years of age.

eVisa for medical treatment requires additional documents apart from those mentioned above. They are: -

  1. Hospital Appointment Letter by MHTC Member. 
  2. MHTC letter 
  3. complete companion information entry.
  4. Only two adult companions are allowed with the patient: Husband/ Wife ,Father /Mother, Son / Daughter, Grandfather/ Grandmother, Sibling, Maid/Nurse

How to apply for a Malaysia Visa?

You can apply for an eVisa from the Malaysian e-visa website or the Malaysian Embassy/Consulate in India. The Government of Malaysia has authorized three other agencies where you can apply for an evisa. They are Malaysia Visa Application Centre (Malaysia VAC), the Malaysia Visa Service - VLN, and Malaysia Visa Application Centre (MVAC). 

The steps to apply for a Malaysian eVisa are: -

  1. Visit imi.gov.my
  2. Click on “I am new."
  3. Fill out all the information. Create a password.
  4. Click on the “Register” button.
  5. Click on “Returning User.”
  6. Use your credentials to log in. 
  7. Click on “Apply online.”
  8. Fill out the visa application form.
  9. Pay the fees and submit the form online.
  10. You will receive an email notification after the visa is approved.

How do I print an eVisa?

  1. You can print the visa by logging into your account.
  2. Click on the “Apply Evisa” tab
  3. Under the ‘Actions’ tab, click on "Print.”

Malaysia Visa Fees

You can pay the Malaysian visa fee during your visa application. It is non-refundable and subject to change due to changes in foreign exchange rates.  The rates are mentioned in Malaysian ringgit. You can pay by credit card, Mastercard, Alipay, or WeChat Pay. You can pay in cash or by any other online mode of payment. 

  1. All multiple-entry visas cost 100 RM.
  2. The processing charge is 105 RM.
  3. The service charge is 0.8 or 1.7% of the total transaction value.
  4. All single-entry and transit visas cost 50 RM.

Malaysian eVisas take 2 working days to be processed from the day of submission. If your documents are incomplete or blurry, you will be notified to re-upload them. You have to re-upload fresh documents within 5 days for visa processing. The Malaysian e-visa website advises you to apply for a Malaysia visa two weeks before your arrival.
