Netherlands visa for Indians


The Netherlands, also called Holland, are a part of the countries included in the Schengen Area. In order to visit the Netherlands as an Indian national, you need a Netherlands visa from India. This country provides a rather unique type of visa facility for business owners, known as the Orange Carpet Visa Facility. Details about the visa are also mentioned below.   1. Airport transit visas are for the travelers looking to travel onwards from the Netherlands to another country.
  2. The short-stay Schengen visa is for individuals looking to visit or stay in Schengen areas for a period of 90 days or less.
  3. Orange Carpet Visa Facility is for those who travel routinely to the Netherlands for business purposes. 
  4. Long stay visas, or MVVs, are for those who are looking to stay in the Netherlands for more than 90 days.
  5. Entry visas are only for Dutch residents whose residence permits have been lost, stolen, or expired.
  6. Caribbean visas are needed if you wish to visit the Caribbean parts of the Netherlands (Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, St Eustatius, St Maarten).
  7. Schengen visa facilitation is for  EU nationals, individuals traveling with family members who are EU/EEA nationals, or individuals traveling to meet a family member who is an EU/EEA national.

Documents required for Netherlands Visa

  • Passport with a validity of at least 3 months from the date of departure from Schengen countries. The issue date of the passport should fall within the last 10 years, and there should be 2 or more vacant visa pages.
  • Proof of residency in the home country/country from where the application is being submitted with a validity of a minimum of three months from the date of departure from Schengen. This includes a passport, visa, or a residence permit. If applicable, a work permit can also be considered for the same. 
  • Passport size photograph
  1. Visa photo size  35mm wide and 45 mm high.
  2. Face should cover majority of the frame and should be between 16 to 20 mm wide and 26 to 30 mm high (not including the space taken up by the individuals ears). For children below 11 years, it can be between 19 to 30 mm high.
  3. Head should be centrally aligned with the full face being visible. 
  4. The image should be colored, recent (taken within last 6 months), in true likeness, natural, contrast between the face and background, undamaged, and original.
  5. The image should be high quality (at least 400 dpi resolution) and printed on smooth, high quality paper. 
  6. The lighting should be optimal (i.e. not over or underexposed). There should be no reflection or shadows anywhere in the image.
  7. The head and shoulders should be perfectly straight, not tilted in any direction, and eyes should look straight. 
  8. Background needs to be light (plain, light gray, light blue, or white) and in one color and shade only. 
  9. Eyewear such as glasses are allowed if they allow clear visibility of the eyes, are transparent, and if they do not cause distortions or shadows. 
  10. Head should not be covered by any headgear, eyes and face should be very clear.
  11. Neutral expression to be maintained with eyes open and mouth closed.
  12. If head is covered due to religious reasons, ensure that the head covering is plain and the facial features such as the eyes, nose, lips, cheeks, chin and forehead are yet clearly visible. 
  • If any of these guidelines cannot be followed for medical reasons, individuals are required to hand in doctor’s certificates as proof.
  • Evidence of financial means. This includes income records, recent bank statements, tax returns, and so on.
  • Proof of civil status. This includes birth certificate, marriage certificate, and other such pertinent documents where applicable. 
  • Planned itinerary.
  • Return air tickets.
  • Proof of confirmed accommodation.
  • Travel health insurance covering up to 30,000 euros (INR 26,62,470.00) in medical expenses, and including the event of death. Should be valid in all Schengen areas and for the period of the entire duration of stay in Schengen areas.

How To Apply

Apply for Netherlands visa

  1. Collect your original documents and one copy of each document.
  2. Fill in the application form. The application form is available once you create and account/ log into your account on the Kingdom of the Netherlands official website
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click onto the blue option which says ‘Log In/Register to fill in this Application Form”.
  4. You will be redirected to a new page where you can follow the instructions on the screen to create a new account or log in to your existing account. 
  5. Once you start the form, the information you fill will automatically get updated. If you stop working on the form for a while, the form with the most recent information will be saved under the ‘My Drafts’ tab. Completed forms will be saved under ‘My Application Forms’. 
  6. Download the completed form and bring along a printed copy of the same. 
  7. Make your appointment at the VFS website. You need a VFS account to make an appointment. If you do not have an account, you can create an account here.
  8. Show up before time on the day and date of your appointment.
  9. Complete the payment of the visa fee at the center.
  10. You will get an email after application get processed. You can collect passport that is affixed with visa from center.

  2. The fee for a child between 6 to 12 years is  €40 (INR 3,549.92)
  3. There is no fee for children below 6 years of age.
