Types of Norway Visa

Here are some common types of visas for Indians travelling to Norway:

Documents required for Norway Visa

  1. Completed Application Form: Fill out the visa application form accurately and completely. You can usually find the form on the website of the Norwegian Embassy or Consulate in your country.
  2. Passport with at least six months' validity from the intended date of departure from Norway. There should be a minimum of 2 blank pages for the visa stamping.
  3. Photographs of the applicant which abide to the following guidelines.
  4. 2 copies of the applicant’s passport size picture to be submitted. 
  5. Image should be taken within the past six months.
  6. Size of the image should be 2 inches by 2 inches.
  7. White or light colored background, color should be constant i.e. there should be no shading or texture or anything as such.
  8. Full face should be visible with there being a neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open.
  9. The face should cover a majority of the image.
  10. Head gear and eyewear is not permitted unless the head wear is worn for religious reasons and there is a medical prescription for the glasses. Even with the same, the head gear must show the full face (from forehead to chin and both cheeks) and the eyewear must not cover the eyes or disrupt the image in any manner (glares, reflections).
  11. Return air tickets.
  12. Proof of travel medical insurance.The policy should cover expenses of a minimum of 30,000 Euros, INR  26,91,600.21. This includes medical and hospital bills, and should be valid in all Schengen areas. 
  13. Confirmation of accommodation in Norway for the duration of the intended stay.  
  14. Proof of financial funds. This includes individual income, bank statements dating back to 3 months, tax returns. If the individual is a company owner, the company’s registration certificate needs to be provided. 
  15. Purpose-specific documents, as applicable. Depending on the purpose of your visit, additional documents may be required. For example, for a work visa, you may need a job offer letter or a work contract. For a study visa, you may need an admission letter from a Norwegian educational institution.
  16. Civil status certificates such as marriage license and personal links to the home country. 
  17. Information about past travel.

Apply for Norway Visa

  1. Collect all the documents mentioned above and ensure you have the copies for the documents as well.
  2. Log on to the page of the Norwegian Embassy/Consulate in India and make an appointment for the visa application submission. You can also make the appointment via the VFS website (‘Book an appointment’ > ‘Book Now’> ‘Log In/Create an account’> Choose a date and time).
  3. Visit the chosen branch of the Embassy/Consulate on the day of the appointment. Ensure that you reach before time. 
  4. Submit all the required documents as well as your completed visa application form.
  5. Pay the required visa fee at the counter where you submitted your documents.
  6. Complete the biometric process, wherein your fingerprints need to be provided and entered into the system, and have your photograph taken at the center by the embassy/consulate officials.

Tourist visas are processed within 45 days of the application reaching the Embassy in New Delhi, so about roughly 50 working days from the date of application and submission of the documents at the chosen center. 

For tourist visa applications, the processing time is usually only 7 working days. 


To track the status of your Norway visa application in India, you can follow these steps:

  1. When you submit your visa application, you will receive a receipt. On this receipt there will be a reference number .
  2. Go to the VFS Global website which is  https://www.vfsglobal.com/Norway/India/ .
  3. When you log on to the website click on "Track your Application". This option will be visible on the site’s homepage itself, near the header. 
  4. You will see an option to track the application status online. Click on this. You will be redirected to a new page like the one linked here. 
  5. Enter your reference number as well as your last name. The reference number is the number mentioned on the receipt given after the completion of the visa appointment process.
  6. Click on ‘Submit’. The status of your Norway visa application from India should now be visible.




Visa Fees
