Types of Sri Lanka Visa

There are different types of Sri Lanka visas depending on the purpose of the visit. Some of them are discussed below:

  1. Sri Lanka Tourist Visa-With the Sri Lanka tourist visa, the tourists can go for excursions, sightseeing and visiting family and friends. The visa is valid for 30 days from the date of issuance. By taking Sri Lanka Tourist Visa, you can stay there for a period of three months. The visa can be further extended for maximum of six months. 
  2. Sri Lanka Business Visa- A business visa is issued to foreign nationals whose purpose of visiting Sri Lanka is business. This visa type may be issued to single, double, or multiple entries. It totally depends on the type of business you have in Sri Lanka. It is generally valid for three months from the date of issue. You can stay there for a period of 30 days. 
  3. Sri Lanka Transit Visa- Transit Visa is suitable for those who plan short trip to Sri Lanka before boarding to onward flight to the final destination. If an applicant has long layover in Sri Lanka then they can apply for transit visa which enables to go out from the arrival point and explore the sites. This visa is valid for two to seven days depending on your layover. If your stay is longer than seven days, then you well be charged an additional amount. 
  4. Sri Lanka Student Visa- Student Visa is provided to those who are coming to Sri Lanka to pursue a course. The approval of this type of visa is processed in Colombo by the Department of Immigration.  This visa is valid till the duration of the course. The stay time also depends on the duration of the course a student is pursuing.

  • For a Sri Lanka Business Visa:
  1. Confirmed airplane return tickets
  2. A passport that is valid for minimum 6 months from the date of departure
  3. Invitation letter from the company and reason for the business visa
  4. Proof of accommodation 
  5. First and last page of the passport (scanned colour copy)
  6. Passport sized photograph with white background
  7. Bank statements
  • For a Sri Lanka Transit Visa:
  1. Confirmed airplane return tickets
  2. A passport that is valid for minimum 6 months from the date of departure
  3. Proof of sufficient funds
  4. First and last page of the passport (scanned colour copy)
  5. Passport sized photograph with white background
  • For a Sri Lanka Student Visa:
  1. A passport that is valid for minimum 6 months from the date of departure

Apply for Sri Lanka Visa Online

Step 1: Visit the official website of Sri Lanka Electronic Travel Authorization System (ETA).

Step 2: Click on "Apply." 

Step 3: Read all the terms & conditions on the next page and click “I agree”.

Step 4: Choose the type of visa you are applying for. 

(Example- Tourist ETA for an individual)

Step 5: A form will appear on the screen. Fill it out correctly without any mistakes. 

Step 6: Review your information once again and check the fee structure. 

Step 7: Pay the fees. 

As soon as you pay the Sri Lanka visa fees, you will receive an acknowledgement email from the Sri Lanka government mentioning your application reference number and fees.
