There are primarily two types of visas, a long-term and a short-term visa. The long-term visa is for those individuals who aim to stay in Sweden for a period which is longer than 90 days. The short-term visa, on the other hand, is more apt for individuals who are looking to be in Sweden for less than 90 days.

The visas are under short-term visas usually include the: 

  1. Business and conference visas:These visas are targeted at individuals who are planning on going to Sweden for the purpose of participating in business activities and/or attending conferences. 
  2. Tourist visa:The tourist visa is for travelers looking to stay in Sweden only for the purpose of leisurely activities and tourism purposes.
  3. Visiting visa:This visa extends to individuals who are looking to visit Sweden for the purpose of visiting their friends and relatives who are citizens or permanent residents of the country of Sweden.

Documents required for Sweden Visa

  1. A passport that will still be valid three months after leaving a Schengen country. The passport must have a recent (10 years or less) issue date and two or more blank visa pages.
  2. Evidence of residency in the applicant's home country or the nation from where the application is being submitted, valid for at least three months after the applicant leaves the Schengen area. A passport, visa, or residence permit are examples of these. A work visa may also be taken into consideration for the same, if necessary. 
  3. Passport size picture 
  4. 35mm wide and 45 mm high.
  5. The face should cover the majority of the frame and should be between 16 to 20 mm wide and 26 to 30 mm high (not including the space taken up by the individual’s ears). This can be reduced to 19 to 30 mm high for children under 11 yrs.
  6. The applicant should be looking straight ahead, at the camera, with the full face being visible. 
  7. The image should be colored, recent (taken within the last 6 months), in true likeness, natural, contrast between the face and background, undamaged, and original.
  8. The quality of the image should be 400 dpi resolution or higher, and printed on smooth, good-quality paper. 
  9. The lighting should be optimal (i.e. not over or underexposed). No reflection or shadows should be visible.
  10. The head and shoulders should be perfectly straight, not tilted in any direction, and the eyes should look straight. 
  11. Background needs to be light (plain, light grey, light blue, or white) and in one color and shade only. 
  12. In terms of eyewear, only prescription glasses which allow for clear visibility of the eyes, are transparent and do not cause distortions or shadows will be allowed. 
  13. The head should not be covered by any headgear, eyes and face should be very clear.
  14. A neutral expression is to be maintained with eyes open and mouth closed.
  15. If the head is covered due to religious reasons, ensure that the head covering is plain and the facial features such as the eyes, nose, lips, cheeks, chin and forehead are yet clearly visible. 
  16. If guidelines are broken for medical reasons, the doctor’s certificates have to be provided, as proof.
  17. Proof of financial capability. This contains tax returns, recent bank statements, and income records, among other things.
  18. Proof of citizenship. Birth certificates, marriage licences, and other relevant documents are included here, where appropriate. 
  19. Estimated itinerary.
  20. Return air tickets.
  21. Proof of confirmed accommodation.
  22. Travel health insurance which covers up to 30,000 euros (INR 26,62,470.00) in medical expenses, including the event of death, has to be submitted. Should be valid in all Schengen areas and for the period of entire duration of your stay in Schengen areas.

How To Apply

Apply for Swedish Visa

The process of applying for a Swedish visa is as follows: 

  1. The application form is available once you create an account/ log in to your VFS account. 
  2. Enter your login details.
  3. In the event that the applicant does not have a pre-existing account, a new one can be created. Click on  ‘I don’t have an account’. A new page, with self-explanatory instructions, will open. Follow the on-screen instructions to create an account.
  4. All forms, in the process as well as completed, are saved under the ‘My Drafts’ tab. In case the site is logged out of, or you take a break, the changes will be saved. 
  5. Once the form is fully completed, download it from the site, and bring a copy with you when you go for the visa appointment. 
  6. Make your appointment at the VFS website. To make the appointment, log in to your VFS account. A new account can also be created if you are a first-time user.
  7. Show up before time on the day and date of your appointment.
  8. Complete the payment of the visa fee at the centre.
