Switzerland, often considered to be a white heaven on earth, owing to the gorgeous sights and scenery, is a place that is often frequented by Indian travelers. Types of Switzerland Visa

For Indians, there are four different categories of visas to Switzerland. Indian nationals can therefore apply for any of the following types of visas: tourist visa, family/friend visit visa, business visa, or employment visa. Details on each type of the visas is given below:

  1. Tourist visa: Indian nationals wishing to visit Switzerland on vacation or for leisure purposes can apply for this visa.
  2. Business Visa: Individuals traveling to Switzerland on business must submit an application beforehand and receive approval for a business visa from the Swiss immigration office.
  3. Friend/Family Visit Visa: Those who are visiting Switzerland at a family member's or friend's invitation must apply for a family/friend visit visa.
  4. Employment Visa: If a person wishes to reside and work in Switzerland, they must apply for an employment visa.

If you are a visitor from outside the EU/EEA, you must adhere to some Switzerland visa requirements for Indians when you get to the Swiss port of entry. This includes: 

Travel permits or passports, which have been issued in the last ten years, and have a validity of a minimum of three months after your proposed date of exit from Schengen countries.

The Switzerland visa documents required for application are –

  1. An original Indian passport, valid for at least six months after the date of entry into Switzerland.
  2. Two 35x45 mm Switzerland visa photo size with a white background and a matt finish.
  3. Completed application for a visa.
  4. Cover letter, which includes the purpose of the individual’s visit and the proposed itinerary. 
  5. Air tickets of your arrival and departure from Switzerland. 
  6. Copy of your travel insurance policy and details. (This includes travel and medical insurance which covers up to costs till 30,000 euros which is INR 26,99,281.61)
  7. Proof of legal address in India (ID cards are allowed).
  8. Confirmation of accommodation in Switzerland. 
  9. Evidence of civil status, like a marriage certificate, in cases where it is applicable,
  10. Evidence of financial means of subsistence is important. This includes income tax returns from the last three years, salary slips from the last three months and a bank statement with details of the last six months. 
  11. Swiss law rules that for Indians trying to avail of a Switzerland tourist visa, the applicant needs to show that they have a minimum of 100 Swiss Francs (INR 9152.82) for each day of the stay in Switzerland. For students, the daily amount is 30 Swiss Francs (INR 2745.85)

Also, if you frequently travel to Switzerland, some additional document requirements are –

  1. An invitation letter from your Swiss relatives or friends.
  2. Passport photocopy.
  3. The previous six-month bank statement

Apply for Switzerland Visa Online

Apply for your visa between 15 days and 6 months before your estimated date of departure from India. 

  1. Download and fill out the visa application form, which is available online at www.sem.admin.ch. Applications can be done in person, or via booking agents at the Switzerland Visa Application Center.
  2. Pay the fee for the application. The payment can be made online via credit card when the applicant registers the application. 
  3. Schedule an appointment at the visa application center, consulate, or embassy, through the official website.
  4. Show up for the interview at the scheduled date and time.

Switzerland Visa fees

  1. The Switzerland visa fee for a single entry visa for a child between the ages of 6 to 12 years is USD 39.55 (INR 3253.24). This does not include the service fee and the VFS charges. 
  2. The visa fee for a  single entry Switzerland visa for adults is USD 79.30 (INR 6522.92). This does not include the service fee and the VFS charges. 
  3. For children under the age of 6 yrs, the visa fee is waived.

Additionally, for individuals participating in sports or cultural activities, traveling for research of study purposes, or those under the age of 25 who are with charitable organizations, the visa fee is waived,
