There are two main types of visas available for Indians looking to visit Taiwan. These are: 

  1. Visitor Visa: This visa is for individuals visiting Taiwan for tourism, business, family visits, or other non-employment purposes. It is typically issued for a short duration, such as 30, 60, or 90 days.
  2. Resident Visa: This visa is suitable for individuals planning to live and work in Taiwan. It is typically granted for longer durations and requires a specific purpose, such as employment, investment, study, or accompanying a family member. Some visas included under the resident visa type are: 
  1. Student Visa: If you intend to study in Taiwan, you will need a student visa. This visa is issued to individuals who have been accepted into a recognized educational institution in Taiwan.
  2. Work Visa: If you have secured employment with a Taiwanese company, you will need a work visa. The employer in Taiwan usually initiates the application process, and you will need to provide relevant documents such as a job offer letter and a work permit.
  3. Entrepreneur Visa: This visa is for individuals who plan to start a business or invest in Taiwan. It typically requires proof of business plans, financial stability, and investment details.
  4. Family Visa: If you have a family member who is a Taiwanese citizen or a resident in Taiwan, you may be eligible for a family visa. This visa allows you to join your family member who is a citizen of Taiwan, in Taiwan for a specific duration.

You can either opt for a single entry visa, or a multiple entry visa. As the names suggest, single entry visa allows you to enter into the country once, and a multiple entry visa allows you to enter into the country several times in a fixed period of time.

Documents required for Taiwan Visa

In order for Indians to avail of a visitor's visa for Taiwan, there are a few documents which need to be submitted. The documents are as follows:

  • Filled visa application form with the applicant's signature on it. 
  • The applicant’s passport. The passport must be issued in the last 10 years, be valid for a minimum of six months from the date of arrival in the country of Taiwan, and have three or more blank visa pages. 
  • 2 copies of the applicant’s passport size picture. The guidelines for the visa photograph are as follows: 
  1. Image should be taken within the past six months.
  2. Size of the image should be 2 inches by 2 inches.
  3. White or light colored background, color should be constant i.e. there should be no shading or texture or anything as such.
  4. Full face should be visible with there being a neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open.
  5. The face should cover a majority of the image.
  6. Head gear and eyewear is not permitted unless the head wear is worn for religious reasons and there is a medical prescription for the glasses. Even with the same, the head gear must show the full face (from forehead to chin and both cheeks) and the eyewear must not cover the eyes or disrupt the image in any manner (glares, reflections).
  • Evidence of confirmed accommodation during the duration of the stay in Taiwan. If you are staying with known acquaintances, an invitation letter should also be attached.
  • Return air tickets. 
  • Proposed itinerary of your visit in Taiwan.
  • Evidence of financial funds to support your stay in Taiwan. This includes bank statements from the last three months, salary slips, tax returns, and other similar documents.

For different types of visas, different additional documents may be asked for. For example, for a work/employment visa, you will need to provide official documents highlighting your employment status and a letter on behalf of your employer. 


How To Apply

The application form is available on the official website

  1. Fill out the application form and all the details they have asked for. Ensure that the information inputted is correct and genuine.
  2. Put together all the aforementioned documents that are needed for the Taiwan visa from India.
  3. Book an appointment at the closest Taiwan Embassy to you and submit your application in person. The locations and option to book the appointment will be visible on the window that appears when the application and documents have been submitted.  
  4. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in New Delhi is the only location in India. Details about the location, timing, and how to contact them can be found here.
  5. Pay your visa application fee at the counter at the time of submitting your application.
  6. Interviews are only conducted when the authorities think it may be necessary.
  7. You will be notified via email when you can pick up your passport with the Taiwan tourist visa for Indians included.

If you are traveling to Taiwan as a part of a tourist group, or for business purposes, you can apply for an eVisa. To apply for an eVisa the following steps need to be taken:

  1. Go to the Taiwan official website for eVisa applications. 
  2. Fill in the details asked for and the verification code which will be mentioned in the block right below the answer blank. Use the code to proceed further. You will be asked to upload certain documents, which will be mentioned on the screen.  
  3. Once this is completed, pay the eVisa fee online by card.
  4. The eVisa will then be processed, and the confirmation will be sent to the applicant’s email that had been provided.
  5. A physical copy of this eVisa needs to be taken and on arrival in Taiwan, needs to be shown to the immigration officers
