Documents Required for Change Name on Driving Licence

The following documents are required for driving licence name correction:-

1. Original Aadhaar card
2. Original Class 10th/12th  certificate
3. Xerox of passport if available
4. Original Birth certificate
5. A gazette notification
6. An affidavit attested by 1st class judicial magistrate
7. Copy of ad in national/local newspaper

Procedure to Change Name on Driving Licence (DL):

There is an online as well as offline procedure to change name on driving licence. In the online method, you can apply for name change through Parivahan Portal. In the offline method, you can visit the RTO from where you had applied your DL for further information. 

Driving Licence Name Correction Online

1. Visit the Home (parivahan.gov.in) and select your state from the drop-down menu.
2. Click on the “Driving Licence” tab and select “Services On DL (Renewal/Duplicate/AEDL/IDP/Others” from the drop-down menu.
3. A new web page displaying all the DL services will open. Click on the “Continue” button at the bottom of the same page.
4. Type your Driving licence number, Date of Birth, and the Captcha code. Click on the “Proceed” button.
5. You can view your name and other information on the next page. After verifying all the details, you must select your State and the particular RTO and click on the “Proceed” button.
6. Next, you can view the details of your address. Verify it and click on “Confirm” button.
7. Complete the e-KYC authentication by typing in your registered mobile number. Thereafter, click on the “Generate OTP” option.
8. You will receive an OTP on your Smartphone. Enter the OTP you received and then, click on “Authenticate With Sarathi” button.
9. Select “Change Of Name In DL” and then the “Proceed” button.
10. On the next page, you can view your personal details, make revisions, and click on the “Confirm” option.
11. Check the declaration box and type in the Captcha code. Click on the “Proceed” button.
12. An acknowledgement form with all the service request details will be displayed.
13. Follow the instructions and upload the necessary documents as well as your photograph and signature.
14. Finally, complete the payment.
15. The update DL will be delivered to your address. 

Offline Name Correction for Change Name on Driving Licence:

1. Visit the Regional Transport office where your DL was issued.
2. Get approval from the designated officer to apply for name correction in driving licence.
3. Then, gather and submit the necessary documents to the Data Entry department and pay the prescribed fees at the fee collection counter.
4. Thereafter, your photo, fingerprints, and signature will be collected.
5. Collect the receipt given by RTO for future reference and application tracking.

1. Visit Home | Parivahan Sewa | Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India
2. Click on ‘Online Services’ tab.
3. Select “Driving Licence Related Services” from the drop-down list.
4. In the following page, select your State.
5. Enter your unique Application number, Date of birth and the Captcha code.
6. The application status of your name correction in DL will appear on the screen.
