According to the French Consulate in Bangalore, Indian nationals need a valid Airport Transit Visa (ATV) if they wish to transit through the international zone of French airport to another country. Like other types of France visas, Indians have to apply online for transit visa and submit the visa application at VFS application centers in India. There are two conditions for which only Indians need to get France Transit Visa:-
- If you are travelling from a non-Schengen country to your non-Schengen destination while you stay/wait at the international zone of any French airport.
- You are travelling from a third country while you have to stay at the international zone of the French overseas department, community, territory where the airport is located to another third country.
France transit visa rules
- A Transit Visa is just a stamp or sticker on your existing passport.
- France Transit Visa is called Air Transit Visa. It is valid for 24 hours only.
- It allows you to stay either in the International zone of France airport or the international zone of French overseas department, community or territory.
- You need a valid short-stay visa if you wish to leave the international zone of the concerned French airport or change airport where you have a connection flight. The same rules apply for airports located in any French territory, community or the French overseas department.
- You cannot enter a Schengen area with any kind of ATV.
Indians who do not require a France transit visa?
Indians who are exempt from France Airport Transit Visa are:-
- Holders of diplomatic or official Indian passports.
- Holders of a valid uniform visa, a national long-stay visa, or a residence permit issued by a Schengen State;
- Holders of valid residence permits issued by another EU or EEA (European Economic Area State, or Andorra, Canada, Japan, Monaco, San Marino, or the United States, guaranteeing the right to re-entry;
- Holders of valid visa for another EU or EEA (European Economic Area) State, Canada, Japan, or the United States. During the return trip, you may travel through France even if your visa has expired provided that you are taking a flight from the above countries.
- Families of European Union, EEA country, or Swiss nationals
- An aircraft crew member
- If you are a family member of a national of EU or EEA.

The following documents are required for France Transit Visa for Indians:
- A valid Indian passport which is issued less than 10 years ago, containing at least 2 blank pages, with a period of validity at least 3 months longer than the date on which you intend to leave the Schengen Area or, in the case of a long stay, at least 3 months longer than the expiry date of the visa requested.
- Please scan all pages of your Indian passport containing visas, entry and exit stamps or any other inscriptions.
- Photo ID Photocopy.
