If you want to get your driving license you need to pass two tests. First, you take the learning license test. After passing that, you can book an appointment for the driving skill test. Only some states offer online driving licence test appointment. If your state has this feature, you need to check the availability of slots first. If online test appointment is not available, you can visit your nearest RTO directly.
Driving License Test
As mentioned before, to get your driving license, you need to pass two tests.
- Learning License Test – This is a computer-based exam that checks your knowledge of traffic rules and signs.
After passing the Learning License Test you can then book driving licence test appointment
- Driving Skill Test – This test analyse your actual driving skills through various maneuvers and turns.
Note: Some states allow you to take this computer-based test from your own location if your Aadhaar is linked to your phone number.

Driving Licence Test Appointment Online: Method I
You can select the date and time of the driving test before appearing. All you have to do is online slot booking for the driving license test. Here’s how:
- Go to Parivahan’s Portal > Click on Online Services > Choose Driving License Related Services
- Choose your state > Click on Apply for Driving License > Enter the details > Click on Continue
After you complete the payment you will get OTP on the mobile number linked to your learning license. Enter the OTP. You will see your appointment details
- Verify the details > Pay fee > Enter the OPT
- Choose DL Test appointment dates > Click on Confirm Slot Booking
Online Driving Licence Test Appointment: Method II
- Go to the Parivahan’s Portal
- Select the state > Click on the Appointments > Choose DL Test SLOT
- Fill out the form and make the payment
- Visit the RTO on the scheduled date,

What should I do if I can't find an available tes appointment slot after paying the fees?
Rules vary depending on your state and RTO. So, it’s best to directly talk to your Local RTO about getting your refund.

Do I need to visit the RTO even after online slot booking?
Yes—an RTO visit is mandatory on the appointment day. Online booking simply secures your time slot. You still need to be physically present at the RTO for:
- Document and fee verification
- The actual driving skill test (on the test ground)
Without this visit, you cannot appear for or complete the test.
