There are several types of visas offered by  Thailand. The nine most commonly availed visa categories are as follows:

You can apply for a Thailand visa online through the official website of the Thai government. The application process involves filling out the visa application form, uploading the required documents, and paying the applicable Thailand visa fees for Indians. But, depending on the visa category, you may be required to submit additional or category-specific documents.

Thailand visa requirements for Indian citizen

The required documents for Thailand visa for Indians as per the type of visa applying are:

  • Individual’s passport which is valid for a minimum period of 6 months post the date of entry in Thailand.
  • Completed visa application form. 
  • Two copies of the applicant’s photograph that meet the following specifications:
    • The photograph must be recent and taken within the last three months.
    • A white or light blue background is required. Clothing should not blend with the background, and the contrast must be clearly visible.
    • The face and eyes must be directly aligned with the camera. The face should occupy 70–80% of the frame, with eyes clearly visible. Teeth should be visible.
    • The Thailand visa photo size must be 35 mm × 45 mm.
    • The photograph must be of good quality, with no stains, lines or blemishes.
    • Headwear is not permitted, except for religious reasons.
  • Confirmed round-trip flight tickets, with full payment completed.
  • Proof of accommodation during the stay in Thailand.
  • Proof of sufficient financial means, showing:
    • At least 20,000 Baht per individual (approximately INR 56,998) or
    • 40,000 Baht per family (approximately INR 1,13,997)

eVisa on arrival 

You can get eVisa before arriving at airports in the Kingdom of Thailand. For the e-visa available on arrival, additional documents may be required. This visa is issued only for tourism purposes.

Additional documents may be required depending on the visa category. The categories and their respective document requirements are listed below.

Business visa (Category B)

  1. Approval letter and copy of work permit from the Ministry of Labour. 
  2. Employment contract.
  3. Proof of educational qualifications

Education visa (Category ED)

  1. Academic records and student identification
  2. Acceptance letter from the academic institutions. 
  3. Proof of enrollment in a Thai institution, with a maximum of 15 hours of classes per week (3–4 courses per semester)
  4. Approval from the Ministry of Education
  5. Completed Student Visa application form. 

Marriage visa (Category O)

  1. Thai Non-Immigrant O visa application form which is fully filled and signed.
  2. Notarized or legal marriage certificate’s copy
  3. A copy of the partners Thai counterpart’s passport and proof of identity which is signed by them.
  4. Evidence of the Thai partner’s financial stability.

Retirement visa (non immigrant visa category O- OA and OX)

The O-A visa is a one-year retirement visa, while the O-X visa is valid for five years. Indian citizens are not eligible for the O-X visa.

  1. Retirement visa application form which is fully filled and signed.
  2. Proof of financial stability showing:
    • A monthly income of at least 65,000 Baht, or
    • A security deposit of at least 800,000 Baht
  3. Police clearance certificate confirming no criminal record
  4. Medical certificate confirming the applicant does not suffer from leprosy, tuberculosis, elephantiasis, drug or alcohol addiction, or third-stage syphilis
  5. Health insurance covering 40,000 Baht for OPD treatment and 400,000 Baht for inpatient treatment.

Transit visa (Category TS)

No additional documents are required.

Permanent residence visa

  1. Signed and filled Form for Permanent Residence in Thailand.
  2. House registration book and a copy.
  3. Work permit’s copy.
  4. Work Background certificate by the respective sub-department of the Department of Employment.
  5. Income tax forms copies

Diplomatic/official visa (Category D/F)

Official or department approval letter/order for visiting Thailand for diplomatic or office work.

SMART visa (Category T, I, E, S,O)

FAQ’s

Do Indians need a visa in Thailand?

No, but Indian citizens can enter Thailand visa-free for up to 60 days for tourism or short business visits. But, Thailand digital arrival card must be filled online at least 72 hours before arrival
