High security number plate contains a hot stamped chromium based hologram of Ashok Chakra on the top left corner of the plate. The colour of the Ashok chakra is blue and the size of the hologram is 20 mm x 20 mm.
HSRP contains letters bearing the inscription ‘India’ at a 45-degree angle followed by a hot-stamped film that will be applied on the numerals.Every HSRP is unique and linked to the vehicle.

Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MORTH) has made it mandatory for all vehicles registered before 1st April 2019 to affix HSRP. Now you may face a penalty for vehicle without HSRP plate.
Is a coloured fuel sticker also required

According to the Motor Vehicles Act, colored fuel sticker is also mandatory for all two and four wheeler vehicles. The primary objective of these stickers is to make it easier to identify vehicles based on their fuel type from distance.
Following are the sticker as per fuel type:
- Petrol and CNG -Blue color sticker
- Diesel – Orange color sticker
These stickers contain details like registration number, the registering authority, a laser branded PIN, the engine and chassis numbers of the vehicle. It costs around Rs 150.

- HSRP helps the RTO authorities in the identification of the stolen vehicles. It keeps records of all vehicles in a proper centralized database.
- The old number plates had low build quality and were easy to tamper with. It was difficult to track a stolen vehicle. HSRP has a unique 10-digit PIN and is attached to your vehicle with non-removable snap-on locks.
- There were no defined rules of font type and size in earlier number plates, So, it was very difficult to read the vehicle number from distance for traffic police. The new HSRP system has solved this issue. It has uniform pattern of showing the registration number of the vehicle, making it clearly visible.
- HSRP provides better security and authenticity. Also, the HSRPs are affixed by state government approved automobile dealers or private vendors.
How to apply for HSRP online
Every state has appointed an authorized private dealer for issuing HSRP plates. You can book HSRP online through dealer’s official portal, Following are the general steps for HSRP plate booking:
- Visit the official HSRP booking portal authorized by the government
- Select your state and RTO
- Enter vehicle details:
- Registration number
- Chassis number
- Engine number
- Select an authorized fitment center
- Book an appointment date and time
- Make the online payment
- Download the receipt and appointment confirmation
- Visit the fitment center on the scheduled date
- Fix the HSRP plate
