How to Pay Your eChallan in UP
Once you see your challan details, follow these steps:

- Download receipt and keep it safe

The fixed speed signboards on the expressway often still say “100 km/h,” but the automated speed cameras (ITMS) are reprogrammed remotely to trigger at 80 km/h.
If you Challenge this on the Parivahan portal, it will be rejected because seasonal executive orders override physical static signages in UP courts. You must pay the fine unless you can prove the violation occurred outside the notified winter dates.
Can I be issued two overspeeding challans on the same UP expressway trip by different cameras?
Yes. UP expressways have speed cameras and fixed radar units at different poits operated by different concessionaires and traffic jurisdictions (e.g., Gautam Buddha Nagar vs. Mathura vs. Agra).
The system treats each camera detection as an independent offence under Section 183 of the Motor Vehicles Act. You can receive multiple ₹2,000 challans on a single drive.
Someone in another district is using a duplicate/cloned plate of my vehicle number, and I am receiving UP eChallans. How do I clear this without going to court in that distant district?
You must file a physical FIR/NCR for Vehicle Registration Plate Cloning / Forgery under the IPC/BNS at your local UP police station. Mail a certified copy of the FIR along with your vehicle’s physical photos (showing color/model differences) to the Superintendent of Police (Traffic) of the district where the challan originated. Only an SP-level officer has administrative backend rights to void cloned plate challans.
My vehicle's HSRP (High Security Registration Plate) was damaged or missing, and an AI camera generated a ₹5,000 challan. If I fix the plate, will the fine be waived?
No. Fixing the plate after the violation does not retroactively cancel the fine under UP Traffic Rules. However, if you order an HSRP replacement online before paying the challan, you can attach the official HSRP replacement order receipt while attending the next National Lok Adalat in UP to request the magistrate for a substantial fine reduction.
Will an unpaid UP eChallan affect my UP Police Verification for a new job or Passport renewal?
No. Pending eChallans on the Parivahan portal does not affect routine Police Character Certificate (PCC) or Passport verifications.
If the eChallan remains unaddressed for over 6 to 12 months and is transferred from Virtual Court to a regular Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court, the magistrate may issue a formal court summons or Bailable Warrant (BW) for non-appearance. Once a warrant/summons is active on the UP Police CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems) portal, your police verification will immediately fail with an “Adverse / Pending Court Matter” remark.
I sold my car on a stamp paper/agreement, but the buyer hasn't transferred the RC. Am I legally liable for their UP eChallans?
Under Section 2(30) of the Motor Vehicles Act and multiple Allahabad High Court rulings, the registered owner on the VAHAN database is 100% strictly liable for all automated ITMS eChallans. A notarized sales agreement on stamp paper carries no weight with the UP Traffic Police.
To protect yourself, you must report the vehicle as “unauthorizedly possessed/retained” at your local RTO. This flags the RC on VAHAN, preventing the buyer from operating or re-insuring the car until the ownership transfer and pending challans are cleared.
Why does the UP Traffic Police / Lok Adalat token booking website crash or say 'Tokens Exhausted' within seconds?
For major UP districts (Noida, Ghaziabad, Lucknow, Kanpur), the State Legal Services Authority (UPSLSA) releases a capped number of online Lok Adalat tokens (usually 3,000 to 5,000 per district). This number of tokens is often insufficient due to overwhelming number of vehicle owners who actually want to attend Lok adalat.
If you miss an online token, you can still attend the physical District Court campus on the day of the National Lok Adalat. Walk into the DLSA (District Legal Services Authority) office on-site with a printed copy of your challan notice. Magistrates reserve a manual walk-in quota for senior citizens, out-of-state drivers, and individuals presenting urgent hardships.
