The process of applying for a lost passport procedure is straightforward.  The following are the major documents required for a lost passport:

1. Date of Birth Proof
2. Affidavit informing how and where the passport was lost as per Annexure “F”
3. Original Police report
4. Supporting documents for Non-ECR category
5. Photocopy of first two and last two pages of Passport.

Below is the list of documents acceptable for date of birth proof in the process of Adult Fresh passport application: 

1. Birth Certificate issued by the Municipal Corporation or other authority
2. Transfer/School leaving/Matriculation certificate
3. Policy bond by life insurance corporation with applicant’s date of birth
4. Service Record/pay pension order and other government related document
5. Voter ID
6. PAN card
7. Driving Licence
8. A Declaration given by the head of the orphan/child health care.

Below is the list of documents acceptable for address proof in the process of Adult Fresh passport application: 

1. Water Bill
2. Telephone Bill
3. Income Tax Assessment Order
4. Electricity Bill
5. Photo ID Card
6. Proof of Gas Connection
7. Certificate from Employer or Company Letterhead
8. Spouse Passport Copy
9. Aadhaar Card
10. Rent Agreement
11. Photocopy of Active Bank Account Passbook

Steps for lost passport application in India

1. Report the loss to the passport authority: If you are in India, report the loss to the nearest police station as soon as possible. But if you are abroad then report the loss to the Indian mission.
2.  Apply Emergency certificate (EC) for Urgent: In case of an urgent situation like illness or a family member’s death, contact the Indian Mission, and after verification, they may provide you with an Emergency Certificate.
3. You have to apply for a lost passport application under the “Reissue” category. Pay the processing fees as per the category and print out the application form.
4. Get the required application documents for the lost passport under the “Reissue” category.
5. Submit those documents to the passport seva Kendra and the application form.

How to Get Duplicate Passport Online?

If you want a duplicate passport, applying online might be the best option for you as it is easy and time-efficient. Let’s see how to get duplicate passport online. In order to do so go to the official Indian passport service website and follow these steps.

• Open the link and the home page of the website will open.
• If you are new to the website, register yourself. Those who are registered can log in using their ID and password.
• Now you will see the list of services. Choose “Apply for fresh passport/Re-issue of passport” and now choose to apply online by clicking the blue hyperlink under Alternative 1.

• In the next page check the appropriate boxes and click next. Do the same for the next page.

• Now on the next page fill out the application form and go to the next page until you find a page asking for uploading documents.

• Now upload the required documents and check the second checkbox if you want to be notified about your duplicate passport status by SMS. It will cost you extra 50 rupees.
• Next, choose “pay and schedule appointment” and then choose a payment option.
• After that, you will see the list of appointment availability. On the next page choose a suitable appointment date from the dates highlighted in green. Sometimes it tells that you did not book an appointment but don’t worry. Login sometime later and book the date again.

• Now complete the payment procedure and print the receipt on successful payment. If you face any server issues, try again later.
• Print the application receipt.

• Go to the appointment place on a fixed date and get the verification process done.

Time Required for Lost Passport Application

Passport lost procedure is an official process where police verification may be involved. But usually, the normal duplicate passport making procedure takes about 7 days to 1 month.
