Day 1: Explore Baku: Old City

On the day of arrival, you can sightsee and explore the Old City after checking into a hotel. You can visit the following places in afternoon and evening:

• Maiden Tower – A historic watchtower that has amazing city views. The entrance fee is 15 AZN. The structure comprises eight stacked tiers connected by a spiral stone staircase, with a distinctive protruding section that may have served architectural or astronomical functions.
• Shirvanshah’s Palace – A UNESCO heritage site, once the royal residence of the Shirvanshah dynasty. The entrance fee is 15 AZN.
• Uma Mosque – A beautiful mosque inside the Old City where you can experience peace and relive history. It is very close i.e about a 3–5 minute walk to the Maiden Tower.

At the end of the day, you can have dinner at a local Azerbaijani restaurant. You should try traditional dishes like plov (rice dish), dolma (stuffed grape leaves), and kebabs.

Day 2: Explore Baku City & Shopping

You can reach Baku City by metro or car from the Old City. Thereafter, you can spend the whole day exploring the various spots of Baku as follows:

• Heydar Aliyev Center – A modern architectural wonder designed by Zaha Hadid. The entrance fee is 10 AZN. Heydar Aliyev is designed by Zaha Hadid, it features smooth, flowing curves with no sharp angles and houses, museums, galleries, and event spaces.
• Flame Towers & Highland Park – You can get amazing views of the Caspian Sea and the city skyline at these parks. There is no entrance fee.
• Baku Boulevard & Little Venice – Don’t miss out on a relaxing walk by the Caspian Sea and enjoy a small boat ride in Little Venice. A charming area with canals and boat rides, inspired by Venice, offering a relaxing and picturesque experience.
• Shopping at Nizami Street – You can buy souvenirs, carpets, and Azerbaijani sweets. Bargaining gets you good deals.

In the evening, you should try dinner at a rooftop restaurant of Baku City.

Day 3: Explore Gabala

You must start at dawn and take a flight to Gabala town from Baku City. It takes 3 hours. Otherwise, you cannot cover all the following spots in Gabala:

• Tufandag Mountain Resort – Enjoy a cable car ride to see breathtaking mountain views. The ticket costs 20 AZN. It offers ski slopes, snowboarding, cable cars, and panoramic mountain views, making it a year-round spot for both winter sports and summer hiking.
• Nohur Lake – A peaceful lake where you can take a boat ride and relax. There is no entrance fee. It is a popular spot for picnics and nature walks which is also known for its traditional villages and local culture,
• Seven Beauties Waterfall – A stunning natural waterfall located near Khachmaz, Azerbaijan.It is named after the legendary “Seven Beauties”, the waterfall cascades through forested cliffs, creating a picturesque and tranquil environment.
• Gabaland Amusement Park – A fun place for kids and families with rides and games. The entrance fee is 15 AZN.

You should stay overnight at a mountain resort in Gabala to enjoy the scenery and local dishes like piti (lamb stew) and kebabs.

Day 4: Explore Sheki

Sheki is the historic and cultural gem of Azerbaijan. It takes 2 hours by taxi or bus to Sheki from Gabala town. Youcan stay the night at a hotel in Sheki but explore the following spots in the day:

• Sheki Khan’s Palace – A beautiful palace with colorful stained glass windows and rich history. The entrance fee is 10 AZN.
• Caravanserai – A historical hotel and bazaar where traders used to stay in ancient times.
• Sheki Bazaar – A great place to buy local sweets like Sheki halva, dried fruits, and handicrafts.

You can try out dinner at a traditional Sheki restaurant. You can have the famous Sheki Piti and other local dishes.

Day 5:  Day Trip to Gobustan & the Absheron Peninsula

You must return to Baku early in the morning and explore Gobustan. You can take a car, bus, taxi, metro to reach Gobustan. It takes 50 minutes. Your day trip to Gobustan before departure should consist of the following sites:

• Gobustan National Park – A UNESCO site known for its ancient rock carvings and mud volcanoes. The entrance fee is 10 AZN.
• Ateshgah Fire Temple – A historical temple where natural flames burn continuously. The entrance fee is 10 AZN.
• Yanardag (Burning Mountain) – A hill with natural flames burning for thousands of years. The entrance fee is 9 AZN.

You can relax while enjoying a Caspian Sea boat ride. You can also do some last minute shopping.

Furthermore, you can have an early dinner by the Caspian Sea and return to Baku. It takes 15 minute to reach Old city by walk or metro. You should depart for the airport at least 3 hours before your flight. You can take a Bus, taxi, metro to reach the airport.

Departure to India from Azerbaijan

There are direct flights from Baku to India. You can take a direct flight from Baku to Delhi or Mumbai. It takes around 5 hours. You can also reach Bangalore, Chennai, or Kolkata after a layover in Dubai, Doha, or Istanbul. It takes 12 hours after a layover.

Azerbaijan Trip in 7 days
