You can apply online through the Passport Seva website for the renewal of Indian passport before expiry date. There are two modes of application available: Normal and Tatkal passport applications. Adult as well as minor passport holders can get a reissued passport within one year before expiry of their old passport. You cannot apply for passport renewal before one year of expiry of existing passport.

Following are the steps for renewal of indian passport before expiry date :

1. Passport application form filling – Application form is to be filled up online.
2. Fees payment – Passport application fees can be paid either online or offline at any SBI branch
3. Appointment scheduling – Once  payment is done, scheduling of  appointment at nearest passport seva kendra is required for document verification and biometric purpose
4. Visit to passport seva kendra – On the day of appointment, applicant needs to visit to the passport seva kendra for biometric and document verification
5. Police verification – There will be police verification at the current address    
6. Passport issuance – Once police verification is done , passport will be issued
7. Delivery of passport – Passport gets delivered by post at the current address

The documents required for the renewal of Indian passport before expiry date remains same for normal as well as tatkal application mode. You have to submit these documents at PSK on the date of appointment. The mandatory documents required for the passport renewal before expiry are:

For Adult

1. Old passport (Original)  with self-attested copies first and last two pages of the passport
2. Document proof for Non ECR category
3. Proof of address (if present address different from old passport)

For Minor

1. Old passport (Original)  with self-attested copies first and last two pages of the passport
2. Annexure D (Declaration by parents)
3. Proof of address (if present address different from old passport)

Fees for renewal of Indian passport before expiry date

How to apply for renewal of Indian passport before expiry?

Here are the steps for the renewal of Indian passport before expiry date

1. First register on the Passport Seva website.
2. If you’ve already registered on the site, click the ‘Existing User Login’ link to log in.
3. If you are not already a member, you must first create an account by clicking on ‘New User Register Now.’
4. Create a login ID and password using the basic information, such as your name and date of birth.
5. Go to the ‘Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport’ tab after you’ve signed in to your passport account.
6. Fill out the form for passport renewal and click ‘Validate’ to save a copy of it.
7. Pay the passport renewal fees and book appointment for PSK visit.
8. Print the application receipt of appointment
9. Visit selected PSK for document verification
10. Undergo police verification at police station near your address

Then, after submissions and verification, you have to wait for 30-45 days under the normal process to get a renewed passport at your address.
