It is an authentic Government ID proof. The Indian government created the PAN card to reduce tax evasion. The Income Tax Department of India has authorized NSDL e-governance Infrastructure Limited (NSDL.gov.in) and UTI Infrastructure Technology and Services Limited (UTIISL) to verify pan card details for various entities approved by the Government of India. “Verify Your PAN” is a pre-login service on the e-Filing portal of the Income tax Department of India for all users other than External Agencies. You don’t need to login into the site like any external agency. Only External Agencies can access this service after logging in with a USER ID and password. With this pan verification online service or pan card details checking, you can:

  • Check if the details of the PAN card, such as Name on the PAN card, Date of Birth etc. are correct or not
  • Verify if your PAN is active or not

Procedure for Pan card Verification

You can only avail pan card verification facility at the Income Tax Department website. Other websites like e-Protean and UTIISIL can only be used to verify pan details by external agencies with login ID and password.

You can directly go to the e-Filing portal or check your pan card details with your Aadhar number:-

  1. Visit website
  2. Click on ‘Verify Your PAN details’ under the ‘Quick Links’ Section.
  3. Enter your PAN card number, Full Name (As written on your PAN card), Date of Birth and Choose the ‘Status’ as applicable.
  4. On the Verification page, enter the 6-digit OTP received on your phone number and click  “Validate”.
  5. Enter the image that is “Captcha” and click on the ‘Submit’ button to verify your PAN details.
  6. After successful verification, your PAN card status will appear on the screen.
  7. You can also verify your PAN card by entering your name and date of birth. This is how you can access the information on your card.

The following steps are for PAN Card Verification with an Aadhaar number:

  1. Visit the site 
  2. Click on “Link Aadhaar” under the “Quick Links” section. You will then be redirected to a page for online PAN Verification.
  3. Select “Click here” to view the status of your Aadhaar-PAN link. Thereafter, you will be redirected to a new page for PAN number verification.
  4. Enter your PAN Card Number and Aadhaar Card Number.
  5. Click on the “View Link Aadhaar Status” link.
  6. Your online PAN verification with your Aadhaar Number will be displayed.
