Process of Tatkal Passport

The process of Tatkal passport is not completely online. You can start the tatkal passport process online but you need to visit the Passport Seva Kendra to complete it.  

Apply Online for Tatkal passport

• First, visit the  Home Page and register as a ‘New User’ or log in as an ‘Existing User.’
• Choose “Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport” and select the “Tatkal” option.
• Fill out the form and submit it.

The next step in the tatkal passport process is scheduling an appointment.

What is Tatkal Passport Appointment Process

• Go to “View Saved/Submitted Applications” 
• Click “Pay and Schedule Appointment.”
• Choose an available date and time slot at your nearest Passport Seva Kendra. 
• Pay the fees 

Visit the PSK 

For the further process of tatkal passport follow these steps : –

• On the scheduled date, visit the PSK
• Bring your Original documents and Photocopies of all original documents.
• Appointment details – SMS confirmation or print of the application receipt.
• Submit the documents at the PSK.
• They will take your biometrics –  your fingerprints and photo will be captured electronically.
• You will receive a final receipt with your application number for tracking your tatkal passport status.

Documents for Tatkal Passport Process 

If you want to apply for a passport, you must have the necessary documents in order to proceed with the process of tatkal passport. The documents required for the tatkal passport process depend on your age.

If you are 18+ applying for a Tatkal passport, you need to submit:

1. Address Proof, 
2. Date of Birth Proof,
3. Non-ECR (if applicable) +

• Any 3 of these:
  • Aadhaar card 
  • PAN card
  • Student ID card 
  • Birth certificate
  • Ration card (latest or updated)
  • Voter ID card
  • Driving license (valid and in same state as application)
  • Bank/Kisan/Post office passbook (with photo and latest transaction)
  • Caste certificate (SC/ST/OBC)
  • Arms license
  • Pension documents (military, government, etc.)
  • Government/PSU/public body/company ID card

If you are below 18 applying for a Tatkal passport need to submit:

Fees for the Process of Tatkal Passport

According to the need, there are different tatkal passport process fees in India. You will get to the complete detail about the fee structure while applying.

Fee for the process of tatkal passport for fresh application–

For Passport Re-issuance-

Minors (those under the age of eight) and senior citizens (those over the age of sixty) are eligible for a 10% discount on basic passport fees. Additional fee for process of Tatkal passport are not refundable.

The payment can be done through online banking, Credit and debit card, and through SBI Bank Chalan.

Police Verification For Tatkal Passport Process

When you apply for Tatkal passport, the police verification process is done after you receive your passport. This is a bit different from the normal passport application process, where verification typically happens before you get the passport. 

1. After completing Tatkal passport process you will get your passport within 1-3 working days
2. Later, the police will visit your address for verification.

Tatkal Passport Renewal

The process of tatkal passport renewal is the same as the new Tatkal passport process. If your passport is damaged but the credentials (name, passport number, photograph, and signature) are easily readable, you can apply for a reissue through the Tatkal scheme. However, if the passport is damaged to the point of being unreadable, you will be unable to apply for another passport under the same scheme.

Note: Tatkal Passport Process

Although police verification is required after passport issuance, passports will be dispatched on the third day without a police verification report.
