You can complete process of Tatkal passport application and appointment booking online, but you must visit a PSK or POPSK for document verification and biometrics.

Tatkal Passport Documents Required
The documents required for Tatkal passport application process depend on your age. If you are 18+ applying for Tatkal passport, you need to submit:
- Address Proof,
- Date of Birth Proof,
- Non-ECR (if applicable)
- Any 3 of these:
- Aadhaar card / e-Aadhaar (must be a complete original letter or digital signature-verified e-Aadhaar)
- PAN Card

- Bank / Kisan / Post Office Passbook (Running account with photo, attested by the bank, and active transaction history)

As per the latest rules
- Birth Certificate is mandatory for applicants born on or after October 1, 2023. It must be issued by the Municipal Corporation, Registrar of Births and Deaths, or any other authorized authority.
- For applicants born before October 1, 2023, you can submit any one of the following documents as valid proof of date of birth:
- Birth Certificate
- School Leaving Certificate / Secondary School Certificate
- PAN Card
- Driving Licence
- Voter ID
- LIC Policy Document

One major difference between Tatkal and normal passport process is the timing when police Verification is done.
- In tatkal applications, passport is issued on post-police verification basis. This means your verification takes place after passport has already been printed and dispatched.
- Since the verification happens later, you don’t need to wait for police report to reach the Passport Office. Once your documents are verified and approved at the PSK, your passport is issued and dispatched .

Tatkal Passport Renewal
Tatkal passport renewal process is similar to the new Tatkal passport process. If your passport is damaged but still readable, you can apply for reissue through the Tatkal scheme. But, if your passport is severely damaged and unreadable, you cannot apply for new passport under this scheme.

Can I get an early appointment for a tatkal passport?
Yes, Tatkal appointments are limited and released at fixed times. To get an early slot, complete your application in advance, keep your ARN and payment details ready, and book as soon as slots open. If Tatkal slots are full, you can book under the normal quota with a Tatkal application and still pay the Tatkal fee.
Can I get refund if my Tatkal passport application is rejected?
No, tatkal passport fee is non refundable. If your application is rejected due to incomplete documents or ineligibility, the fee cannot be claimed back.
What happens on the ground if my Tatkal request gets downgraded to "Normal"?
If your passport application is downgraded from Tatkal to normal at PSK due to eligibility problem, your passport will be issued after police verification. Also the extra payment made for tatkal passport will not be refunded.
Does my bank passbook really work as a Tatkal document, or is it a trap?
Bank passbook will be considred as Tatkal document if it meets following criteria :
- It must be a Public Sector Bank (PSB) or specific scheduled private bank.
- It must have your photograph stamped with the bank’s physical rubber seal overlapping the photo.
- It must show active transactions covering the last 1 year.
How do name mismatches across the 3 Tatkal documents get handled?
Name on all 3 tatkal documents should match for tatkal passport application. If there is mismatch in the name in the 3 documents, chances are that tatkal application will be rejected and your application will be downgraded to normal.
Can I travel internationally while my post-police verification is pending?
Yes, you can travel internationally while police verification is pending. Bureau of Immigration systems check if the passport number is valid. They do not check the pending status of local police station visits.
