Does an Indian even need a Thailand Transit Visa?

In most cases, Indians do not need a Thailand Transit Visa. Generally speaking, you don’t need to apply for a Thailand Transit Visa if:

  1. Your connecting flight is within the same ticket of your flight to Thailand.
  2. Your layover does not exceed 12 hours.
  3. You stay at the International Transit area at the airport during your layover.

Need to apply for a Thailand Transit Visa for Indian if:

  1. Your layover exceeds 12 hours even if you stay in the International Transit area.
  2. You need to leave the airport premises and enter Thailand.
  3. You need to change your airports to catch your connecting flights and have to pass the security checks at the second Thailand airport.

Types of Thailand Transit Visa for Indian

There are three types of Thailand Transit Visa for Indian. These visas have single-entry and multiple-entry options. Both visas are valid for 3 months. Travelers can stay for 30 days within 3 months’ period with both kinds of visa options.  Employment is strictly prohibited if you apply for this visa.

  1. Transit Visa – TS: This Transit Visa allows Indians to transit from Thailand Kingdom to their destination country and enter their home country.
  2. Transit Visa – S: This Visa allows athletes to participate in sports and cultural competitions and events.
  3. Transit Visa – C: This Visa allows captains, pilots or persons in charge of crew to enter the ports, stations or crews of Thailand.

How to get Thailand Transit Visa for Indian?

You can submit your Thailand Transit visa application along with your documents via these three service providers.

  1. VFS Global
  2. BLS International
  3. DU Digital Global.

You need to pay service charges to all these service providers. You have to take an appointment by call or mail to submit your documents.

Indians who hold Diplomatic, Official and UN Laissez Passer will have to submit their Transit Visa applications to Gate 1 at the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi.

Thailand Transit Visa requirements for Indian

The following documents are required for all kinds of Thailand Transit Visa:-

  1. A valid Indian passport with two blank pages whose validity is not less than 6 months. If you don’t have a Indian passport, you must reveal your residence proof like Aadhaar card photocopy.  
  2. Two signed copies of the first and last pages of the passport.
  3. Duly signed and filled-up Transit visa application
  4. Confirmed flight tickets with the ports of departures and destination.
  5. Two color photos
  6. Hotel reservations in Thailand with the name of hotel; its contact number and the reservation under the applicant’s name.
  7. If you want to stay at any Thai relative’s or friend’s house, you must submit a copy of their Thai ID proof. In case they are not citizens of Thailand, you must submit a copy of their passports as well as visas or work permit which is not older than 6 months.
  8. Original bank statements of 6 months attested by the bank that shows a consistent bank balance of 700 USD for individuals and 1400 USD for family.
  9. If your bank balance is less than 700 USD, you must have a cover letter of the sponsor. The sponsor’s name must be mentioned in the bank statements and the signed passport photocopy of the sponsor.

Photo specifications for Thailand Transit Visas are:

  1. Photo size must be 3.5 x 4.5 cm.
  2. It must be taken on a white background,
  3. Photo must not be older than 3 months
  4. Your face and eyes must be in direct position to the camera without any sunglasses.
  5. No hat or head covering, except for some religious beliefs or ethnic background.

Additional documents for the Transit Visas S/C are:-

  1. A Cover letter stating your purpose of visit to Thailand Kingdom.
  2. A Letter of invitation stating the applicant’s participation in sports activities in Thailand.
  3. A Letter from the transport company for the concerned crew member/pilot/captains.

The Royal Thai Embassy can ask for additional documents and demand an interview.

Thailand Transit Visas are processed within 4-5 days, excluding the date of submission of the visa application. If you submit additional documents, it will delay your visa processing by 2 more days
