Following are the steps for passport application for senior citizens:

• Passport application form filling – Application form is to be filled up online.
• Fees payment – Passport application fees can be paid either online or offline at any SBI branch
• Appointment scheduling – Once  payment is done, scheduling of  appointment at nearest passport seva kendra is required for document verification and biometric purpose
• Visit to passport seva kendra – On the day of appointment, applicant needs to visit to the passport seva kendra for biometric and document verification
• Police verification – There will be police verification at the current address

Can a bedridden or highly immobile senior citizen get a passport without physically visiting the PSK?

No. As per Passport Act, physical presence of all applicants is mandatory at passport seva kendra for biometrics and live image capture to prevent identity fraud. There is no door-step service. However, in many cities mobile van Passport seva Kendra facility has been started, where biometrics can be given in the nearby location with prior appointment. Also, a bedridden senior citizen can be brought in a wheelchair and escorted directly to the front of the line with the help of priority medical/senior handling window.

What if the senior's old passport has a handwritten birth date/place, but modern documents (Aadhaar/PAN) show something else?

This is a very common problem among senior citizens i.e. inconsistency in the available documents. And this is one of the major reason for passport application putting on hold. If a senior citizen has old passport where birth date/ place written is different from the available supporting documents such as Aadhaar/ PAN, in such case application has to be filed under the category of “Change of Date of Birth/Place” and provide ntorized affidavit or 10th certificate.

What happens if a senior citizen lives with their children but the utility bills/rent agreements are only in the child's name?
