RTO Chennai comes under Tamil Nadu's transport department. The RTO office in Chennai is in charge of traffic regulations, road tax collection, the issuance of driving licences, vehicle registration, and other related works such as transfer of ownership of vehicle, HP addition/termination of vehicle, vehicle NOC, and so on. I want to sell my bike. Its Chennai registered and there was hypothecation on it. Do I need to cancel HP before selling bike ?
Technically HP has to be removed from RC before transfer of ownership of bike. However, process for HP termination and transfer of ownership can be done together. So, just get the loan closure letter and NOC from bank required for HP termination. Submit these papers along with ownership transfer documents to the RTO.
Do sellers presence is required in Chennai RTO for the transfer of car ?
TPhysical presence of seller is not required at RTO for the transfer of ownership of vehicle. Physical presence is required only in case where there is signature mismatch of the seller with the signature sample in the RTO record.
Will my vehicle’s registration in the Chennai RTO be valid if I obtain NOC to move my vehicle from Chennai to another state but do not complete the process of re-registration?
Vehicle's registration in original RTO is not valid, once NOC for the vehicle is issued. You can not approach RTO for any service like duplicate RC, fitness, ownership transfer. Its advisable to re-register the vehicle to new RTO as soon as possible. If RC or NOC gets lost in between , its very complicated scenario .
For Duplicate RC process, is the visit of registered owner is mandatory in RTO Chennai ?
Yes . In Chennai visit of registered owner is mandatory to the RTO for duplicate RC process.
How many days will it take to get driving licence in RTO Chennai?
It takes approx. 1 week time in getting learning licence in Chennai. 30 days from the date of issue of learning licence, one can apply for permanent licence. Once your permanent test is done, you will get licence in 1 week time. So, new driving licence is approx. 45 days process in Chennai.
My learning licence was issued from Kanpur 2 months back. Now I am in Chennai. Can I apply for permanent licence from RTO Chennai ?
No. You can apply for permanent licence only from the RTO which has issued learning licence. So, you need to apply for permanent licence from Kanpur only. If its not feasible for you to go to Kanpur for permanent licence, then its advisable to start process again in the current city. It means that you will have to again apply for learning licence , then after for permanent licence.
My Car/bike is RTO Chennai regsitered and now i have to sell my car in Mumbai. How can I transfer ownership of my car ?
