Visa on Arrival is a facility that lets you obtain your visa upon landing at your destination instead of having it before-hand before you even leave your home nation. Visa on Arrivals are only offered in select countries, and that too only for tourist visas rather than business visas.

Visitors would typically need to furnish the following documents for obtaining a visa on arrival:

  • Confirmed return flight tickets
  • Proof of hotel reservations
  • Evidence of sufficient funds to span their stay in the country
  • Passport sized photographs of the visitors
  • A passport with adequate blank pages
  • Money for the fee if required by the country

Countries which offer the Visa on Arrival to Indian nationals are:

  • Armenia– Defined by its religious sites including the Greco-Roman Temple of Garni and the 4th-century Etchmiadzin Cathedral, Armenia is a former Soviet republic present between Asia and Europe. Armenia allows the visitor to stay up to 120 days in the country. To obtain the visa it is necessary for the visitor to present passport, photo, fill the application form, pay a non-refundable visa application fee of approximately INR 2100 and present other optional supporting documents (air ticket, hotel reservation, invitation and etc.) depending on the purpose of travel to the Republic of Armenia. The passport needs to be valid during the whole period of stay in the Republic of Armenia.

 

  • Benin– Benin is a French-speaking West African nation. It is the birthplace of the vodun (or “voodoo”) religion and the former Dahomey Kingdom. Tourists can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 8 days by paying the fee of approximately INR 1200. However, they must have an international vaccination certificate.

 

  • Bolivia– Bolivia is a South American country having a rugged terrain spanning the Andes Mountains, the Atacama Desert and Amazon Basin rainforest. Visa on arrival is granted to Indian citizens at a cost of INR 6000. They require the documents mentioned above along with yellow fever vaccination card and original bank statements.

 

  • Burundi– The Republic of Burundi is a landlocked country in East Africa and is famed for its diverse wildlife in national parks and clear waters in lakes. Indian citizens with an Entry Authorisation letter issued by the authorities of Burundi before departure can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 1 month.

 

  • Cambodia– Cambodia is a Southeast Asian nation known for its art deco Central Market, glittering Royal Palace and the National Museum’s historical and archaeological exhibits. Indians can obtain a Visa on Arrival for Cambodia, for a maximum stay of 30 days, by paying a fee of INR 1400. They will require a completed visa application form along with the other required documents mentioned above.

 

  • Cape Verde– Located off the northwest coast of Africa, Cape Verde is known for its Creole Portuguese-African culture, numerous beaches and allowing visitors to stay in the country for a maximum of 90 days by paying an application fee of INR 3100.

 

  • Comoros– The applicant must have the approval from the Consulate in India before one can obtain the Visa on Arrival to this volcanic archipelago off Africa’s east coast. The visitor may stay up to 45 days by paying an application fee of INR 400.

 

  • Ethiopia– Ethiopia, in the Horn of Africa, is a rugged, landlocked country and a place of ancient culture. Visas on arrival are only available for tourists at the Addis Ababa (Bole) International airport, at a cost of approximately INR 3500 for 1 month and INR 5000 for 3 months. Visitors will also require a yellow fever vaccination certificate.

 

  • Gabon– All visitors holding an entry authorisation issued by Immigration prior to arrival can obtain a visa on arrival for a period of 90 days to visit this Central African country known for its diversity of wildlife.

 

  • Guinea- Bissau– Indian citizens can obtain visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 90 days to see this tropical country on West Africa’s Atlantic coast.

 

  • Guyana– This country in South America is defined by its dense rainforest, cricket, calypso music and British colonial architecture. Indian nationals travelling as tourists can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 30 days as long as they have a letter of invitation from a sponsor or host.

 

  • Jordan– Ancient monuments, nature reserves, seaside resorts and the Dead Sea define the beauty of this Middle- Eastern nation. Indian passport holders are eligible for visa on arrival to Jordan provided they carry all the necessary documents, which will be valid for 14 days. Documents such as the travel itinerary and cash or Traveller Cheques worth at least USD 1000 per person must be carried along with the above mentioned documents. The processing fee is INR 3800.

 

  • Kenya– All Indian nationals are eligible for a Visa on Arrival at Kenya’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport where visitors can stay for up to 90 days with this visa. They also require a yellow fever vaccination certificate. The visa processing fee is INR 3500 to visit this East African country encompassing the savannah, lake-lands, the dramatic Great Rift Valley and mountain highlands.

 

  • Laos– Indians can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 30 days provided they carry all the required documents and pay a processing fee of INR 2700 and they can see this beautiful Southeast Asian country known for its mountainous terrain, Buddhist monasteries and French colonial architecture.

 

  • Madagascar– This island nation off the southeast coast of Africa allows Indians can obtain a visa on arrival for maximum stay 90 days. The fee for a 30 day visa is INR 2500, a 60 day visa is INR 3100 and a 90 day visa is INR 4300. Visitors will need to carry a completed application form and Yellow fever vaccination Certificate.

 

  • Malawi– A south-eastern African nation, Malawi is famed for the Great Rift Valley and enormous Lake Malawi. Its diverse wildlife and clear waters make it a popular destination for travellers. Indian nationals may obtain a Visa on Arrival to Malawi for a period of 30 days and can be extended up to a maximum period of 90 days.

 

  • Marshall Islands– Indian citizens may obtain a visa upon arrival valid for a maximum stay of 90 days to this sprawling chain of volcanic islands and coral atolls in the central Pacific Ocean, between Hawaii and the Philippines. Visitors will also need a cholera vaccination certificate.

 

  • Mauritania– Indians can obtain a visa on arrival at Nouakchott–Oumtounsy International Airport of Mauritania for a maximum stay of 30 days to this North-western African country. The processing fee is approximately INR 9000. Visitors also need a yellow fever vaccination certificate.

 

  • Mozambique– The visa on arrival to this southern African nation comes at a cost of INR 3500 and is valid for 30 days. The visa on arrival is for all travellers who want to enter Mozambique regardless of whether or not there is an embassy in their country of origin. Along with other documents, visitors will also require a yellow fever vaccination certificate.

 

  • Nicaragua– This country in Central America is known for its dramatic terrain of lakes, volcanoes, beaches, Spanish colonial architecture and navigable islets rich in tropical bird life. Indian citizens are granted a visa on arrival for INR 3400 provided their passport contains a valid USA, Canada or Schengen visa stamp.

 

  • Niue– Known especially for its limestone cliffs and coral-reef diving sites, Niue is a small island nation in the South Pacific Ocean. Visitors will be granted a free entry permit valid for 30 days.

 

  • Palau– Palau is an archipelago of over 500 islands in the western Pacific Ocean and is known for its picturesque scenery. Nationals of any country can obtain a visa on arrival on this island. The visa is valid for a maximum stay of 30 days but can be extended twice for a fee of INR 3500 each time. In order to obtain a visa on arrival visitors are required to hold a proof of sufficient funds of INR 14000 per week. The one-time processing fee is INR 3500.

 

  • Qatar– Qatar is a peninsular Middle- Eastern country whose terrain is made up of arid deserts and a long shoreline of beaches and sand dunes. Indian nationals can obtain a visa waiver upon arrival valid for 30 days from the date of issuance which entitles its holder to spend up to 30 days in Qatar. The visa on arrival costs Rs.9999 for travellers below the age of 55 and Rs.15,999 for travellers above the age of 55. The visitor must also carry filled application forms along with the other required documents.

 

  • Rwanda- Rwanda is a landlocked East African country with a lush green and mountainous landscape. Indian citizens are allowed a visa on arrival valid for 30 days. The visa processing fee is approximately INR 2000. International Vaccination Certificate for Yellow Fever is required of all visitors.

 

  • Saint Lucia- Saint Lucia is an Eastern Caribbean island with the Piton Mountains on its west coast. It is also home to volcanic beaches, reef-diving sites, luxury resorts and fishing villages. Citizens of India can obtain a visa on arrival valid for 6 weeks by paying a processing fee of INR 2700. Visitors also need a Yellow fever vaccination certificate.

  

  • Somalia- Somalia is a country located in the Horn of Africa. Indian nationals can obtain a visa on arrival valid for a period of 30 days by paying a processing fee of INR 4000. Yellow fever vaccination certificate and a valid Polio (OPV) Certificate are required to be carried.

 

  • Somaliland- Somaliland is a self-declared state internationally recognised as an autonomous region of Somalia. Indian passport holders can obtain a visa on arrival at Berbera Airport in Berbera, Borama Airport in Borama, Burao Airport in Burao, Erigavo Airport in Erigavo Somaliland or Hargeisa Airport in Hargeisa Somaliland. The visa processing fee is INR 2000 but there are different additional costs at each airport.

 

  • Suriname- Suriname is a country on the north-eastern coast of South America. Defined by vast swaths of tropical rainforest and Dutch colonial architecture, it is said to be a melting-pot of culture. Indians can get a Tourist Card (Visa on Arrival) valid for a period of 90 days by paying a fee of approximately INR 2800.

 

  • Tanzania- Known for its vast wilderness regions, the plains of Serengeti National Park and Kilimanjaro National Park, Tanzania is a popular east African country. Indian nationals may obtain a visa on arrival by paying a processing fee of INR 3250, which is valid for 3 months.

 

  • Thailand- Thailand is located at the heart of Southeast Asia and radiates a golden glow onto its numerous tropical beaches, luxurious royal palaces, ancient ruins and ornate temples displaying figures of Buddha. Indian citizens may apply for a visa on Arrival which allows them to stay for up to 15 days at major entry points whether by air or by land and this visa on arrival may not be extended. The fee for visa on arrival is 1000 baht or INR 2100.

 

  • Timor- Leste– Timor-Leste, or East Timor, is a Southeast Asian nation ringed by coral reefs teeming with marine life. Visitors can obtain a visa on arrival at the Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport or at the Dili Sea Port by paying a processing fee of INR 2000. This visa is valid for a period of 30 days. Visa extension applications cost INR 2300 for up to 30 days, or INR 5000 for between 30 and 60 days.

 

  • Togo– Togo is a West African nation on the Gulf of Guinea famous for its palm-lined beaches, hilltop hamlets, traditional settlements having fortress-like clay huts and the Grand Marché bazaar and the Fetish Market. Indian nationals can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 7 days, if they hold a return flight ticket. Extension of stay is possible for an additional period of 90 days. The visa fee to be paid is approximately INR 2000.

 

  • Tuvalu- Tuvalu is an independent island nation within the British Commonwealth consisting of 9 islands. The country has small, sparsely populated atolls and reef islands with palm-fringed beaches and historic WWII sites. Indian national can obtain a visa on arrival valid for 30 days, by paying a fee of INR 6800.

 

  • Ukraine- Located in Eastern Europe, Ukraine is a country known for its Orthodox churches, Black Sea coastline and forested mountains. Indian citizens can enter Ukraine by obtaining a visa on arrival at the Kyiv Boryspil Airport, Kyiv International Airport (Zhuliany) or the Odessa International Airport allowing them to stay up to 15 days. The processing fee is approximately INR 5700.

 

  • Zimbabwe- Zimbabwe is a landlocked country in southern Africa known for its dramatically diverse landscape, diverse wildlife, parks, reserves, safari areas and most importantly, Victoria Falls on the Zambezi River. Indian citizens can obtain a visa on arrival for a period of 3 months for a tourist visa and a period of 30 days for a business visa. The processing fee is INR 3700. Visitors must have a copy of their International Credit Card, bank statements for the last 6 months and Income Tax Returns for the last 3 years.
