PAN Card
Instant e-PAN
The Finance Ministry of the Government of India has made obtaining a PAN card easier by introducing the instant e-PAN card or instant Pan card. The Instant e-PAN facility was launched by Nirmala Sitharaman on May 28, 2020. You just need an Aadhar card which is not linked to any PAN number to apply for an Instant PAN. This facility was launched for equipping every Indian with a PAN to ensure that they are tax-compliant and don’t evade tax payments. It is also a way to root out black money and a valid form of the PAN card. It is a digitally-signed PAN card issued on basis of your KYC details.
Application for an Instant e-PAN is followed up by Aadhar e-KYC. If you haven’t been allotted a PAN but possess an Aadhar card, you can get your Instant e-PAN right-away with an online application. Currently, someone who is minor at the date of the application and Individuals covered under the purview of “Representative Assessee” under Section 160 of the IT Act can’t apply for an Instant e-PAN. You can later update your PAN details after you get a physical PAN card based on the e-KYC details. You can create an e-Filing account based on the e-KYC details after your PAN is allotted/updated. You can’t apply for an Instant e-PAN if you have been allotted a PAN number earlier. It’s a punishable offence to have two PAN numbers. You have to pay Rs. 10,000 as fine if you have two PANs.
